How would you recommend managing tv programs that aren't part of a tv season (MTV videos)?

In some instances I have some old VHS recordings either from my own archive or from archive.org. I just want to label them as I’d like without Plex attempting to ‘season-ify’ a tv show. For example, I have a lot of recordings of MTV music videos.

The problem: Plex thinks these music videos from 1989 are Pimp My Ride with Xzibit.

I’ve resorted to creating a different volume on my NAS and putting these recordings into a different library, “Music Videos” which just uses the ‘Personal Media’ Scanning Agent. But I’d prefer that they were mixed in with my TV Shows library - just without Plex mislabeling them.

Is it possible to have videos in a TV Shows library without Plex using the ‘Plex TV Series’ Agent?

Or, is it possible for COLLECTIONS to span different libraries? This way I could tag my Remote Control episodes in “TV Shows” and my MTV broadcast recordings in “Music Videos” with the tag “MTV” and see them someplace(?) all collated together.

With the current-generation Plex TV Series agent you cannot mix “regular” series and “personal media” videos/clips.

I see two basic options on how to deal with those:

  1. Assign your music videos to a music library (assuming the videos are linked to existing artists in your library) → https://support.plex.tv/articles/205568377-adding-local-artist-and-music-videos/

  2. Have a separate “personal media” tv-show library or an “other video” type library for your music videos (as per your current workaround)

Plex will link same-named collections from different libraries and show them as related media. Many users have such a setup with movies and tv-shows linked to the same franchise (e.g. Star Wars, Marvel Cinematic Universe…)
