Player Version#: plex HTPC for linux on ubuntu on snap: 1.37.2.3674
Hello,
I’m using multiple client at home running plex-home-theater and plex-media-player but they are getting old and would like to change to plex HTPC.
Plex HTPC is working nice except for one thing that I cannot get to work, which is the volume control.
I’m only using the android app on my phone and web version on laptop to control all client at home and set the volume from there, but I cannot get it to work with the HTPC version whatever the setup I do in the audio settings.
The android app display a volume control but it do nothing, plex amp display a volume control but getting back to 0 as soon as I touch it and web version do not display audio control
Am I missing something that should be setup? Is it a feature still in development ?
Can we effectively control plex HTPC volume from another app or am I stuck with plex-home-theater and plex-media-player?
Vectir used to work - not sure if it still does with the current Plex HTPC.
Edit - don’t bother, just tried the version I had sitting on my iPad. No longer works.
It is strange the volume control is there on the Plex app on my iOS devices but it does nothing when connected to Plex HTPC playing media.
All the other controls work fine - Play, Pause etc on the iOS app connected to Plex HTPC.
There used to be a volume control within Plex HTPC but that appears to be gone now ?
I run all audio through our AVR so the iOS app for that AVR controls volume. I then have a Harmony remote and K400+ kb to control Plex HTPC. The Harmony remote connects via a FLIRC USB that allows keyboard mapping.
Would be nice to have it all within the iOS/Android app though for those that don’t want to use a physical remote.
That’s the way I’m using plex for many years and it used to work perfectly with rasplex, plex-home-theater and plex-media-player. That’s a must have for me. I don’t want to bother with a remote in addition to my phone.
How such feature can be lost in latest app and left broken for connected clients?
Are you using Bitstreaming for audio?
Because then you cannot change the volume whatsoever in Plex, as the point of bitreaming is to transfer the audio stream completely as it is, which includes the volume.
If you see a setting in Plex HTPC called “Type of Audio device”, change this from HDMI to Basic.
Then try again.
I tested all modes, none are working. I left it indeed to “basic” which is the most obvious mode where it should work, but it’s not. Is it working for you?
I know that some (most?) modes are sending the audio directly to let decoder do the job, because I had to set it up on plex-media-player. But at least on it, some modes support sending it to the PC system.
