How to get volume control working?

I’m trying to get volume control for local music streaming working in my setup:

  • Plex media server on Windows PC (music library)
  • Plex on Android SmartTV (renderer, connected to receiver via optical)
  • Plexamp on my phone to control playback

Music streaming works as a charm, I love the UI’s on every device. But… I just can’t control the volume. Well, I mean, I can, but only visually. I don’t hear any difference in volume coming from my speaker. The slider in Plexamp moves and the slider on my tv screen too. But that’s probably controlling the tv volume itself. And I want to control volume like f.e. I do with the YouTube apps (on my SmartTV and phone). That does work in the same hardware setup.

I’m probably missing something here. Any suggestions? Maybe using the Chrome only Plex web app, because that lets you control volume for each connected renderer, right? (But will I be able to control it from my phone then, or only on my desktop?)
