My Home Screen is no longer giving me the ability to have a recently added TV shows section, which would encompass all TV libraries. Instead, I have a recently added TV show section for all libraries.
If I manually edit the Home Screen I can add recently added TV shows and that seems to fix the issue momentarily, but the problem will appear again after relaunching the app.
+1 for this issue. AppleTV app also now crashes on opening. Reinstall the app, open it, add my home libraries and then multiple versions appear. Later the app crashes on opening and thus the cycle starts again. Works fine on other devices and web player.
I also have this problem as well, I thought it was just me. If I try to manually reorder the items in the hub, it doesn’t actually show up in the hub, everything else just disappears except for “Continue Watching” and “On Deck”.
I tried resetting the user account and thought that would fix it, but the only way to get it to show Recently Added Videos or Recently Added TV on my hub is to have Plex automatically manage it. This has never happened before.
There are 2 separate categories of issues here, one regarding the the automatic ordering and one with the manual thingie, with manual being the completely broken one.
I’ll start with the automatic ordering since that is easier.
Automatic Ordering:
Separate movie libraries are now separated in individual rows, so if I have 4 movies libraries I get 4 individual rows of movies, 2 additional TV Show libraries and we are at 6 rows, now include seasonal hubs we are at 10 rows + playlists + on deck + continue watching. 1 row takes up half the screen so chances are 0 you will ever see the lower rows especially combined with issues 2:
The ordering is static now, instead of bringing the row with the most recent addition to the top which results in new stuff in bottom rows getting buried and never surfaced.
Both those things combined impact the usefulness of the hub for people with more than 2 libraries very negatively (read: basically useless). There would be an easy fix though: a) revert back or preferable b) let us toggle that behaviour how we like it.
Manual Ordering:
After switching to manual mode the first time, in the menu where I can see all the hubs/rows like “Recently Added Movies * Server Owner” I got 6 duplicates of everything but playlists, on deck and continue watching, even stuff the server does not have like photos
When pressing “Edit Hub Order” and moving, for example, “Recently added Videos” to the top and then exiting the menu, at first everything seems normal but after starting a show and then exiting the hub is all broken. All movie section disappeared from it, all but one tv section disappeared. (On the hub itself, not the edit menu) The only way I found to bring it back it to reset to automatic.
After entering the edit menu a second time the duplicates seem to be gone.
In the edit menu there is only one “Recently Added TV Shows” (if you discount the duplicates), so I can not really reorder the rows within a category unless I reorder the sidebar.
Everything posted here is reproducible.
Not sure if this is all, but this should be a good starting point. I hope that helps.
English is not my first language, so if anything is weirdly written or unclear let me know and i’ll try to clarify.
Good write up @Orko!
I’m seeing the exact same issues.
The separated libraries issue is occurring on iOS & iPadOS clients in addition to the tvOS client for me.
Plex Web shows everything as expected – and in the way I want – by grouping content from multiple movie & TV libraries together into individual movie & TV sections.
I have access to the Plex tvOS app betas, and when the issues first started occurring I assumed they were client-side and I rolled back to a previous version. That didn’t fix it though. So I suspect there’s potentially issues with the clients and PMS.
On the manual ordering issue, an additional problem I have is that when it’s enabled it also breaks the Apple TV / tvOS “Top Shelf” system feature, see this thread.
Hi, thanks for the well written, detailed feedback. I’ve passed on your thoughts on automatic ordering to the team to discuss further.
As for the issues with manual ordering we’ll look into those and can hopefully fix the issues you’re seeing there. I might reach out for logs if we have problems reproducing the issues internally.
+1 here. it’s been happening for well over a month. I can successfully reset Home to default and then pin the items i want but every week or so it reverts and prompts me to “set default home screen” again.
