Server Version#: 1.21.0.3616
Player Version#: 4.49.2 (plex.app.tv web client)
Player Version#: 8.11.0.22186 (Fire Stick 4K)
Player Version#: 5.6.1 Preview (LG webOS 3.x)
This recent change to the Home screen on what I assume is all your clients is genuinely not-helpful at all. I have multiple libraries on my server, like many people, but I have multiple libraries of the same type in some cases. Specifically, I have three TV series libraries, and three movie libraries. Previously, the “Recently Added” hub for TV series included the contents of all TV series hubs combined. I also only had one “Recently Added Movies” hub, which contained the combined new content of all three movie libraries I had pinned to the home screen. That is not the case anymore. I now am getting a new hub for every library. What used to be two rows on my Home Screen is now six.
I have discovered that I can go back to the old display method on the web app if I disable the Automatic Management feature and go to manual control on that PC browser, but this is not an option on the LG smart TV, and while the Fire Stick/Android interface has the manual manage choice it has no impact on this interface change.
Keeping multiple libraries allowed me to easily segregate content types and control the access for managed users, but this new change only reduces the navigation efficiency for users with access to more than one library of a type (series or movies).
Edited to add Roku, as a Roku user reported the same thing on Reddit.
Okay, I’ve realized the interface is different. I still have multiple hubs, but the hubs are now all “compilation” hubs and are duplicating each other. So I had three rows of “Recently Added Movies”, all with the same titles on them. I was able to remove the duplicates and rearrange things back to how they were, but this is easily the sort of thing that should just be a preference one can turn on/off as a single toggle on a client. Plus I still do not have a way to return to the old combined style on the LG webOS client.
Agreed, This is NOT Helpful at all.
If you separate your movies and tv shows out, it is very hard and annoying to have to try and remove all the extra recently added movies and tv shows hubs. I have been trying to fix this and get it back to normal on my firestick and it has not been working.
The extra hubs are not deleting and when I try to move a recently added hub up or down, it keeps jumping up and down, even after I exit out of the hub management. If you want to add an extra hub for every folder, make it optional in the least where you can choose to have it the old way or this new way, or better yet, just get rid of it and go back to the old way, because this “upgrade” stinks.
I just finished “fixing” the Home screen on my second Fire Stick 4K and I think I can shine some light on this. When you’re in manual config mode the hubs are all identical to each type, and when you try to remove a hub it actually removes the TOP instance of this hub. So let’s say your initial layout is this:
On Deck
Recent Series
Recent Movies
Recent Movies (#2)
Recent Music
Playlists
Recent Series (#2)
Recent Series (#3)
Recent Movies (#3)
Recent Movies (#4)
If you try to delete Recent Movies #3, it doesn’t actually delete this hub. Instead, it deletes the top (#1) Recent Movies. You get confused because you can see the item you tried to delete is still there and other things are changing order. So what you want to do first is pare down all the extra hubs until you only have one Series and one Movies hub, then arrange them in the order you want.
No, this is separate. From my understanding that is a server-side feature. I don’t have “tis the season” because of my older server version. I’ve heard you can disable the holiday hub, btw.
Also, this appeared at different times on clients. It was on the web app first, and it didn’t appear on the Fire Sticks until later (because Amazon is slow approving updates to the Plex app and I only got 8.11 in the last couple days). This new Home Screen layout corresponds to when they added the teal checkmarks to watched series episodes.
I am having the problem on my FireTV 4K Stick and FireTV Cube 2019 which I created a video so demonstrate the issue. I am really disappointed that Plex QA did not test their latest updates before pushing them out, this all would have been avoided and so close to Christmas too.
I hope this fix this before December 25th or will be asking my Plex Pass money back with interest.
This video was taken of my FireTV Cube 2019 on my Samsung 4K UHD:
I wholeheartedly agree, please revert this! I have many different libraries for different categories of things and now mine and my users’ home pages are filled with a gazillion recently added lists.
I agree, this is terrible. I now have like 15 Recently Added TV sections, instead of one nice combined section. I assume for some poeple this new style is great, but for people with multiple libraries of the same type it is horrible. Please add a setting to the clients to let us choose if we want the libraries combined or uncombined on the dashboard, or something similar.
It seems this “feature” has been applied on all devices. I can see it on my shield and android phone and roku. I have multiple tv and movie libraries and the home screen looks ridiculous now.
Dear Plex Team,
I urge you to remove this feature or atleast give us the option from server side to disable it.
I hate the new “feature”. It’s half assed too. If you’re gonna list “recent added movies” several times at least name the library it’s recently added in. “recently added in Kids Movies” or something like that that would make it more obvious to people on the app to keep scrolling down to the recently added they care about.
Also, we should be able to remove individual hubs then without having to unpin the library from the sidebar, since there will be so many and maybe we want to be able to access the library quickly without having another whole row on the Home Screen.
It seem the idea behind this new layout is the hub order will follow the library order on the sidebar so you can better control the layout – isn’t that the exact opposite of “Automatic” management! If they want to piecemeal everything out like that it should be on the Manual mode, not the other way around.
