Would love to have text/video/audio features to be incorporated into Plex’s Watch Together mode. Similar to rabb.it website when it was up. You can have the option to turn on your webcam, and talk via your mic and also type in the chatbox while watching movies and videos together.
Will Plex be getting these features as well?

I’d like to request a chat feature for watch together. This would allow friends to chat real-time during the movie or Tv show. I got the idea from a google extension called Netflix party (now called Teleparty).

There’s already a pretty old suggestion on a basic chat functionality to interact with other users.
Not sure this fits the Watch Together context though (the other request is more server-owner → user)
Same! Want the ability to text and have text appear on a little box on the television screen. It would make the Watch Together so much more friendly and usable than also using phone occasionally while trying to watch something on your TV screen.

I used to use Kast (formerly Rabbit) that had this feature but I got away from using it because the chat box took up part of the screen you’re watching videos on
They did have an overlay feature they added where the chat would pop up over the show you were watching in full screen mode
But the message would disappear after a second so you would miss what people were saying
Kast also had the ability to voice chat while you watched something but there was a big problem with feedback and echo
The best solution I found was using Google Hangouts. You can text, voice chat or video chat with multiple people if you start a group chat
The text box floats so you can move it around or reduce its size to fit your screen if you use Plex on a laptop or just use it on your phone while you watch on the TV
I realize adding this feature would still be good for some people but companies that specialize in this still can’t seem to get it right
It may be a larger feature implementation than Plex is willing to invest in so thinking about 3rd party apps may be your only realistic option
I know this is a very old discussion, but I’ve got an idea that would be very easy for Plex to incorporate into the Plex Server! An Open Source AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) Server is readily available (GitHub - mk6i/retro-aim-server: Open-source instant messaging server that makes classic AIM and ICQ clients work again.) and could be integrated into Plex Server. This would allow Server clients to readily communicate with each other using simple AIM Clients!

As noted in our previous announcement, our existing Watch Together functionality will not be included in our new experience apps on launch, which are currently in preview and will be released broadly in the future.
As such, we’re closing related feature suggestions in order to give back those votes, so that you can vote for something else.
We do not preclude the possibility of offering similar functionality again in the future, as we also noted in our announcement. Should that happen, then feature suggestions like this one and others would certainly be considered during that development.
A new suggestion related to adding Watch Together to our new experience apps has already been raised and you’re welcome to comment or vote on that suggestion.
