HW Acceleration crashes on Dell PowerEdge T30 / Windows 10 Pro

Can you pinpoint the intel driver being used?

thanks

Regarding the crashes that are avoided by downgrading the intel driver, as shown in this table, I have a development build that fixes the intel related crash that came in after version 1.18.0.1944-f2cae8d6b on Plex Media Server - I would like to have this build tried out by users that needed to revert the intel driver - just in case the change also avoids this crash.

Any volunteers ? Needs to be from users that were getting the crashes and then the crashes stopped after downgrading the intel driver to version xxxx.7000

hi sa2000,

first sorry for my english, i french,

since the plex server 1944 i have a crash when i launch a play (and when the server launch the transcoding, the error is about FFMPEG).

since the plex release 1944 i decline all new version, after two try with new version when i launch play my plex crashed.

when i read you, you say is about the intel driver P530… after intel web site visit, i see the drivers is for 6th and later processor generation,

i have a intel i7 4790K is the 4th generation, then i haven’t the P530 intel driver install in my computer, however my plex server crash too… i don’t know if this information help you…

i wait new about this issue, and i hope she fixing quickly ^^

thanks for your help, for me and for community

If your server does not crash on 1.18.0.1944 but crashes on the releases after that, then I have a development build available that fixes the issue when hardware acceleration is enabled. I need to see logs after crashing to confirm the crash is the one we have just tested the fix for

fine, if i understand correctly, you need i update my plex server with a news version ( which one ? the lastest ? ) and try to launch a play, wait a crash, generate log package and send it to you ? right ?

Yes

Either Plex Pass beta 1.18.3.2129-41af4e729 or Public Release 1.18.2.2058-e67a4e892

and for logs

We now have a fix for one of the causes of crashes relating to intel graphics and hardware acceleration

See release note for beta 1.18.3.2156-349e9837e which was released earlier today Plex Media Server

  • Fix crash on Windows with Intel graphics adapter and hardware acceleration enabled (#10736)

Until I hear otherwise, we have two causes for the hardware acceleration related crashes:

(it will be good to know if the new 1.18.3.2156 beta does crash with the later intel drivers)

Hello. I know I don’t post much but, I wanted to report that the latest Intel Graphics version 7529, released on Nov 25 for the Intel NUC 7 with Pentium Silver J5005 (UHD605) and latest Plex *.4.2164 finally works without crashes. Correctly HW transcodes on Windows 10 Pro.

sounds like good news. Was this after you had crashes with the earlier versions following .7000?

Yes. Insta-crashes on anything past 7000.

I updated the matrix here HW Acceleration crashes on Dell PowerEdge T30 / Windows 10 Pro adding the new intel release

@Geran @whoiscarmine could you have a go at trying `image ?

So I just tested and no crashes on multiple transcodes (both H264 and HEVC).

Intel Driver 26.20.100.7584
PMS Version 1.18.4.2164

Following the test by @Geran and previous feedback from @d0cx, we now have a conclusion to these crashes.

So to summarize the fixes for Plex Media Server crashes when hardware acceleration is in use

  1. Intel Graphics Adapter Driver bug - leading to crash of the Plex Media Server process in module igdumdim32.dll

This is now fixed in the latest driver - this table shows the versions and which version fixes the crash

See https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/29274/Intel-Graphics-Windows-10-DCH-Drivers?product=197599 (or equivalent)

  1. Plex Media Server bug leading to crashes when testing the intel graphics adapter with hardware acceleration enabled

This was fixed as from Plex Media Server 1.18.3.2156-349e9837e Plex Media Server

  • Fix crash on Windows with Intel graphics adapter and hardware acceleration enabled (#10736)
  1. There may be still be crashes when running Plex Media Server headless through RDP or as a Service or Scheduled Task.

For these, as from version 1.18.4.2164 of Plex Media Server, there is a new Advanced Setting for the Transcoder that allows user to disable Hardware Encoding whilst leaving Hardware Acceleration enabled and used for decoding. That would be a better option than disabling all hardware acceleration in such environment

See Plex Media Server

  • (Preferences) Enable ā€œUse hardware-accelerated video encodingā€ by default.

Hi all,

i still got some problems with PMS 1.18.4.2171.
Now PMS is not crashing anymore but the stream with H264 HW transcoding is crashing.
Intel HD530 Driver is: 25.20.100.6373
Geforce GTX 1060 Driver is: 26.21.14.4141

Im not able to disable the HD530 because the mainboard doesnt allow it.
A newer driver version is crashing the internal display of my laptop.

Is this already a known issue?

Cheers

This sounds very old and is even before the list in the matrix here

For the P530 - this intel web page gives the drivers and we have good feedback already for version 26.20.100.7584

Hi Sa2000,

I finaly updated the driver and got the HD530 disabled.
But there is the same error on GTX1060 now.
If i roll back to 1.18.0.1944 it is working.
