@chris_decker08 Can the changes made be implemented into the general release? If so I will keep an eye open on my other server for when to update.
my goal is to get the fixes into 1.40.2 however its going to be tight so it may be the release after
Perfect! Thank you for helping us out! We didn’t know what to do. You’re a rockstar mang!
Hi @chris_decker08
Thank you for your effort and resolve! I am truly happy that you took your time to resolve this issue.
I’m a bit interested in what broke the detection of Nvidia card? Can you explain what the problem was?
Kind regards,
Viktor
I am unsure why it worked previously, and the person who maintained it back then and made the changes that broke it is no longer with the company. They likely worked by accident, which would explain the performance boost kd6icz saw . What I can talk about is why it did not work recently. On Windows, we use Microsoft’s DirectX API to find GPUs, and DirectX does not like headless nvidia devices (devices with no display attached). For commercial cards we would recommend a user purchase a hdmi dongle which would fake the display, but thats obviously not possible for datacenter devices. I got around this limitation by using the nvidia driver itself to look for additional devices.
I’ve been trying different settings. I tried Auto and it used the UHD 770. Just curious if PMS can detect when one transcoding engine is at capacity and will then use the A2?
unfortunately we do not currently support using more than one GPU for transcoding. Its something i’d like to play around with when i get some time (i.e. when you guys all stop reporting bugs :P)
I have found an issue when using the UHD 770 and VC1. PMS chooses software to decode the source file and hardware to encode. But… It gets stuck at 33% and never starts playing.
As far as I can tell, the UHD 770 does support VC1 decoding. I do believe it will be the last video decoder from Intel that will from what I’ve read. I just switched back over to my A2 and all is good. I attached the log so you can see what happened.
The changes you helped with testing have been released in today’s Plex Media Server Beta 1.40.2.8273
-
(Transcoder) On Windows, headless (no display attached) Nvidia cards were not recognized (PM-962)
-
(Transcoder) On Windows, the first Intel device was used for transcoding regardless of which Intel device was selected (PM-962)
I’ll test it out! Thank you and @chris_decker08 for all your hard work and expertise!
@sa2000 and @chris_decker08 looks like todays beta has fixed the VC1 and MPEG2 decoding issues on the UHD 770. So as far as I can tell all is good!
