Hi, I’ve been browsing the forum and the internet to know what to expect if I install a quadro p2000 in my plex server. Is there someone who’s using one?
How many streams will it support, I know it’s unlimited from the technical specifications, but real use case is what I want to know.
How many HEVC streams, H264 streams, mixed…
I can get a Quadro P2000 for a good price and I want to be sure that it would give a good advantage in maximum streams I can transcode at the same time.
I was literally about to make a post with the exact same question. I’ve got a 3770k server that i host my plex on that i use for other various things such as a game server, so i would like to eliminate CPU time for transcoding. Current have a gtx 760 in there that i think might be doing some hardware transcoding? But i’m shifting a lot of my media to x265 and looking to add a different GPU that can really perform as far as x265 to x264 transcoding goes. Server is running regular Windows 10.
I’ve seen many posts about this card saying that for gpu transcoding it was one to get because it’s not limited, but I would of liked to see exemples of what it can do… With that much recommendation there must be someone that has experience with this card!
I’m also looking at buying this GPU. But since the price is on the higher end of what my GF can handle i really need to make sure that it works, and that it can handle a copule of 4K transcodes, before buying it.

I’ll stand in line for an answer to this as well.

I can say it is able to handle 4K 265 streams only using between 8-13% of the GPU, it really has had no issues transcoding 4k streams at one time. Also, it’s worth pointing out, it handles 1080P even better, using only 1-3% per stream.
I recently purchased it as well and can echo D1zzle23 comment. However, I do not use it for any 4k transcoding due to the fact that the result would look washed out since i do not believe the HDR to SDR tone-mapping is properly supported in plex yet. (at least it wasnt for CPU transcoding when I tested before the card)
for the momento i dont think the P2000 is available here (sold out everywere) but the M2000 is available and it seems even better for the same price (more or less)
Well, 3 months later i finally bit the bullet. I’ve actually been using a gtx 760 i had laying around for doing some hw encoding and it was struggling with only 2x 1080p x264 streams… -_- can’t wait to see the quadro p2000 run circles around it.
Anyways i was putting together a 4K HTPC build for the living room and decided to add it in the cart. Looking forward to not having to worry about transcoding anymore! I use my server for many other things such as teamspeak server, a couple game servers like minecraft, ark, Rust, and a seedbox. The 3770K actually handles all this with ease until it starts having to do some trascoding.
I have one last question pertaining to audio transcoding. I’m assuming this is still only done via software transcoding? I don’t think it reasonable to be dedicated hardware in these processors for audio transcoding since its magnitudes lower in performance requirements. But i’ve had some dolby atmos and HD7.1 transcodes do some work on the ol 3770k. Looking into the new 8 core coffee lake in the near future for another server upgrade. I would go something more threaded, but my game servers REALLY need that single core performance, and i’ll basically have my cake and eat it too with an 8 core/16 thread coffee lake that is rumored to be on the horizon.
Gtx1050 can do 2 transcodes without any effort and quality is good on a 42” 1080p screen. The conversion was set to 1080p 8mbs on the Plex app. When more than two streams are used my 8700 is also used. Max I have tested with my setup is 5 streams. I choose the 1050 because it was cheap and the quality is was superior than using quick sync on my old server which had a 3770. Nobody here has actually verified that the quadro p2000 works with different file formats. But they keep coming up with charts and web links.
I didn’t know you could use both the Nvidia GPU and the Intel GPU at the same time, I thought it had to be one or the other. Got a link on how to enable that?
