Hyperion and wired connection

Hi guys,

I’m experiencing a problem with Hyperion, whenever I use a wired connection the lights flash random colors when I play a media file. This doesn’t happen when I use a USB WiFi dongle so I figured the problem is that the ethernet cable leaks power. I’ve tried to switch cables but as I expected that didn’t help so the problem seems to be my router.

So I was wondering, does anyone else have this problem? Is it a common thing that routers leak power or is it just mine? If it is a common thing, has anyone found a solution for this issue (besides grounding, unfortunately thats not possible for me)?

If you use Hyperion with a wired connection without ground connection, please let me know.

Can you raise this as an issue on Github https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/89379/readme-getting-help-and-reporting-issues-with-rasplex

Have you tried to use an unshielded (UTP instead of [S/]STP) ethernet patch cable?
These lack the ground connection (the shielding) which could be the ultimate issue.

I sure can however this is not RasPlex related problem. It happens on OMSC for example aswel, it seems to be a hardware problem. I’ve posted it here on the RasPlex forum because I figured that there would be other people with the same issue.

If you still want me to create an issue on GitHub, I’ll make one.

I’m using a UTP cable yea. Will an SFTP cable work if the router itself isn’t grounded?

Oh, OK, don’t bother with the issue, hopefully changing the cable might help.

Hi all,
Sorry for my bad english.

I have the same problem. I describe it:

  • RP1 b+ with microSD 32GB Class 10 and 0.5.0 = Everthing alright always. 0 Problems in 1 year.
  • The same RP1 b+ with 0.6.0 or 0.7.1 = The lights flash random colors when I play a media file and hyperion logo (top right) appears and disappears randomly very often.
  • RP2 with the same microSD and 0.6.0 or 0.7.1 = The lights flash random colors when I play a media file and hyperion logo (top right) appears and disappears randomly very often.

I used the same hyperion.config.json for all and the original too. I tested with wifi and LAN and the problem continues.

I have a several days searching and I can not find similar problem except for this post. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Have you enabled Hyperion in System Settings?

Regards

Yes, of course. The same configuration. Hyperion works well in all 3 cases, but in the last two cases, randomly flashing LEDs occasionally with vivid colors.

And another one…

I connected LEDs with a power supply and the Raspberry Pi with another one. It makes less flash and the rainbow square has disappeared. Did it need even more power?

Regards.

By the way, I changed the file config.txt by:

What fixed it for me was making sure the LAN cable wasn’t anywhere near power cables. At the time I created this topic my LAN cable ran right next to a power cable.
