Recently (I think in the past couple of weeks) the playback of my Plex audio is very quiet.
I am sure that previously I could change the volume by clicking on the speaker volume in the player interface and a volume slider would appear. Now all I get is the option to toggle the mute status.
Are you playing content from your own Plex server,
or are you playing content from the free video-on-demand library on plex.tv
or from the streaming TV channels on plex.tv?
Which type of Plex client are you using?
How are your loudspeakers connected to your playback device?
Yes I am using my own Plex server (I have a lifetime Plex pass).
The files are stores on the same computer that I am trying to playback from.
If I play the files directly through VLC media player (IE not using Plex) the volume is absolutly fine.
All the other sounds on my system playback absolutly fine.
My speakers are IRig studio monitors connected via a Scarlet 2i2 audio interface. The audio interface is connected via USB and the speakers are connected to the interface using studio grade 3.5mm cable.
As I said all other system sounds are fine.
In addition I have my TV connected to my computer via HDMI - If I extend my screen to display on my TV screen and change my audio device to the HDTV the sound is still very quiet - but all other sounds play back at a good volume on the TV.
That’s the Plex web app. (the “local” one, to be specific. There is also a hosted web app, which is recommended for normal operation.)
It runs in a web browser, so first thing is to make sure that the browser window is maximised to the screen borders, to ensure that no part of the app has been moved across the screen boundaries.
The audio interface has only 2 channels, right?
Were you playing a video which has more than 2 audio channels? Because these tend to be quieter when mixed down to stereo.
Is there an audio-related browser add-in installed in the web browser?
Do also check all your open tabs if you have another instance of the web app playing/paused in another tab. These will have to share the audio interface.
You might wanna check out the Plex for Windows standalone player, if you want better upscaling and /or prevent the server from transcoding.
