With movies with the appropriate metadata (i.e. resolution 1920x800, aspect 2.35:1) the movie files are being stretched to 1920x1024 instead of rendering black bars top and bottom.
This is a common issue with the LG TV app that brought playlist support, and does not occur on all lg smart tvs.
If I view the same video through plex on samsung bluray player it has no issue rencering it correctly, neither does other apps such a playz.
DTS passthrough also fails to function.
LG plex app is the latest available through the Australia LG web store, and the server is the latest plexpass release for synology x86
This issue has persisted for months now and is becoming very frustrating. It is reported here in other forums without resolution. They have tried similar actions in attempting to resolve the issue.
At this point it woudl be better if there was a mechanism to download the older lg tv version and manually install it in stead of the exisitng version to rectify the situation. Can someone from the team advise how we would go about that?

There are aspect options on the tv controls, but none of them apply to apps.
This new behavior for the last several releases of the lg plex tv app has been reported elsewhere and has existed after the LG plex app was updated some months ago.
Despite many users reporting this issue, there has been no official response or fix from plex. I’m extremely frustrated.
Other 3rd party apps on the lg successfully render the correct aspect and additionally succeed in passthru of dts/dca audio, another area the plex official app supports but fails at.
This is most definitely a bug, introduced several versions ago in the lg app.
I’m have a technical background and am very happy to provide assistance and troubleshooting and testing, but there seems no avenue to get direct support despite being a plexpass member.
Noone seems to be taking this seriously, and everyone who has complained about this problem is constantly referred to user error or user interface problems.
It is as simple as it did work one day, the plex lg app was updated, it did not work correctly thereafter. It is a software bug.
How do we corecttly raise a bug issue to the developers in plex?
