I can no longer watch any of my library over cellular network

After pressing play on the majority of my library videos, I get the loading screen for 15 seconds followed by “An error occured while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again.”

I recently moved around my router, and Synology NAS 920+ (which hosts plex), the same day Plex had an update.

Everything seemed fine until i found out that on cellular service only, most of my library is unplayable. Everyone gets the above error message

Everything plays as normal external networks as long as the user is on wifi.
The issue only occurs when using mobile/cellular service. Every single user ive checked has this issue.

Things I tried:

  1. Rollback to older versions of plex.
    2.reset all my router settings to factory defaults.
  2. Directly connect router to modem with one wire, no couplers.
  3. Looked through Plex settings for changes
    Any ideas?

Ive added the log i. The original post to help diagnose.
I attempted 3 times to watch an episode of a show using cellular. It failed 3 times. Android phone. Updated Plex app.

I noticed in Other troubleshooting people referenced using test media. Is this sometbing I should use for the log?

the best way to do this:

  1. Restart PMS
  2. wait 3 minutes
  3. confirm the logs show “Reachability :1” (1 = true) which means remote access is active.

if not, you’ll be using relay.
there are other limitations with relay.

The logs will show why the failure occurred

is there a clearer explanation for this??
I shut Plex down on Synology Nas.

i find a few reachability logs, but nothing states Reachability :1

I dont know what else to look for with the logs? I can upload if needed.

I purchased a new router, i setup port forwarding again, Upnp and it all seems to be working. I updated from 1GB to 2.5GB speeds, Cat6 cables.

Below it, you should have found a ‘reachability’ .

If you’re not sure,

  • Restart Plex,
  • wait a couple minutes
  • Stop Plex
  • Open FileStation
  • Navigate PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server
  • Right-click ‘Logs’ → ‘Compress to Logs.zip’
  • Download the ZIP file
  • Attach it here, I’ll go through it.

This confirms for me that your PMS Remote Access is reachable (the most common problem)

You have more directories being monitored than DSM supports by default.
(The table in the kernel which keeps track of the directories is full – The Transcoder + Dolby will not work. The transcoder uses one of those slots to transcode Dolby audio )

This is easily corrected. (DSM default is 8192 folders)

There are a few steps to this. Take your time. Ask if you have questions.

What did you get for directory total?

Did you accidentally try to index the PlexMediaServer shared folder ?
(should be no media anywhere in there)

Maybe a good idea to check all your folders you reference in your library sections.
One typo will kill ya

My directory total was exactly 11500.

Ill check all those thing you mentioned for sure.

Theres no media in the plexmediaserver shared folder, my media is in other share folders. and i never ran indexing on it. I usually just let diskstation do its own thing.

Ill be checking all my folders.

FYI. (Just remembered)

Sometimes , DSM updates will reset your customization (DSM Upgrades)

All you need do is rerun the task and reboot.

Maybe this was the case here?
