I’ve tried everything on the support page. I have tried two laptops, one being windows 7, the other windows 10. I’ve tried connecting with my iphone 6 plus, ps4 and xbox 1. They all just show the media servers as offline.
Everything uses Wi-Fi, I’m on BT Infinity fibre topic (50mbps), with strong coverage throughout the house.
I can’t see the option but from google it says that my ISP (BT) do not enable it. Plus I’m able to use Chromecast to play Netflix on my TV from my ipad.
Netflix is different. That is getting data from the internet, so internet to strike device is no problem. The setting I’m referring to will still allow from device to internet and back but blocks communication between different devices on the same network, i.e. your server to the plex client.
Some of the clients you listed are plex pass previews. These must have the server and client both logged into plex.tv to work. Check in pms, Settings/ server/ general and make sure you are signed into plex.tv.
Yeah but Chromcast uses Wi-Fi to communicate between devices? The ISP disable it as default and I can’t find it anywhere in the settings so I don’t think it could be a factor. I’ve also streamed from laptop to my Samsung Smart TV in the past using the Samsung streaming software. I’m definitely signed into Plex on the relevant devices, server and client.
When I go into Plex settings on my laptop there’s a red warning beside remote access, and it says ‘Not available outside your network. You server is signed in to Plex, but is not reachable from outside your network.’
Then below it has:
Server Mapping, Private - Unknown IP, Public - Unknown IP, then it says internet as well. Manually specify port is not ticked.
I’ve noticed that my iPhone is now sometimes connecting upstairs (router/hub is downstairs). Xbox and PS4 still won’t connect to the server. I just brought my xbox downstairs to the same room as the router and it is working now. It’s upstairs I need it to work though. I get a strong Wi-Fi signal upstairs and I don’t get any lag on my xbox or PS4 (both Wi-Fi) so this is strange. Is there anything you can suggest?
P.S. The iphone seems to still sometimes fail to connect to Plex, and this was while the laptop and iPhone were basically right next to the router.
If your server settings page says private IP is unknown there is something seriously wrong with the network setup on the server
You will need to get the logs requested and also the output from ‘ipconfig /all’ or equivalent if not Windows pc running plex media server
Also Without remote access enabled some local devices may fail to find the server locally if your router blocks local secure connections traffic due to DNS Rebinding and I know that the BT homehub does block. So depending on the client app you may need to allow insecure connections for local network - but first need to troubleshoot why plex said private IP address (is the local network IP address) is unknown
OK I’ve attached iOS and laptop logs. It was working OK when I attached them though. It seems to be working OK just while I’m next to the Hub, with all devices in the living room. I’m presuming Plex is intended to work OK at a longer Wi-Fi range than that. I definitely get good coverage upstairs, and that’s where I need it to work.
I obviously don’t want to post ipconfig/all on here but I can PM that.
One other thing - I can’t cast anything, perhaps the logs will show that. When I try to cast something to my living room TV, it just says ‘ready to cast’ on the TV, and nothing happens. The laptop just says ‘Casting to…’ and has a spinning circle indicating it’s loading/buffering’. I can cast normally without issue, just not with Plex.
Your’s log are a bit confusing because it looks like you restarted PMS several times to test different things. Except for some networking errors from 8:30am to 10:30am everything else looks normal. I do not see any attempts to cast a video. During those network errors, both the server and app logs show that there was no network connections. Since I see it in both logs, I would think it really was a network issue.
If you can, next time, just do 1 test and provide the 2 logs (1 from pms, 1 from app) with a small explanation of the steps you did.
OK, I enabled logging on my xbox one, which isn’t working just now. I believe the attached should automatically include the Xbox logs now.
Here’s what I did:
12:11 - restarted PMS on ******* Dell XPS 13, confirmed I was logged on.
12:11 - restarted xbox one plex app, confirmed I was logged on. Server unavailable
Your server logs show that everything is fine with the server, but it does not see the XBox. There is a connection attempt from a device at 192.168.1.107 but it fails for some reason. What device is that? Is it the XBox?
I do not have access to the XBox remote logs so I cannot check what is going on with that, but it does sound like something is not right with it. Your XBox is wired to the same router as the server, right?
There was also an update released for the XBox One just today. Give that a shot.
