I cannot get plex to work on any device

To summarize things up:

  • wlan connections do work for all devices if they are close to the router?
-> if so, neither wlan client isolation (in ap/router) or firewall settings should be the problem

  • Since there are a lot of WARN - NAT: PMP, got an error: NATPMP_ERR_RECVFROM.entries in your log it seems like you are using UPNP… It is highly recommendend to give the PMS host a static ip and use manual port forwarding in your router instead!

Another interessting entry is:
Plex Media Server.log.4:Nov 30, 2015 20:11:17:735 [4652] WARN - HTTP error requesting GET http://plex.tv/pms/:/ip (6, Couldn't resolve host name) (Could not resolve host: plex.tv)

This implicates network problems: either Internet or DNS not available or the PMS host is connected via wlan and lost it’s connection to the router?

Is the PMS host connected to the router using a wired connection? If not -> wired connection is highly recommended!
Is the behavior the same if you connect client with a wired connections (e.g. xbox one)?

can you map out how your network looks i.e

BT Infinity hub -> direct wifi to devices or are you setup like below

BT Inifinty Hub -> Switch or Hub -> devices

When I tested working all the devices near the router, I seemed to get some more success. It was only occasionally working though.

My laptop doesn’t have an ethernet port and I don’t want to have to connect it to my router each time I want to watch something. I’d be quicker just using a USB drive and connecting that to my TV.

Mapping out how my network works:

Bt Hub connects to OpenReach modem.

Laptop, xbox one, ps4 etc all on Wi-Fi.

Chromecast also fails to cast anything.

If you are turning your laptop on only when you need, make sure the IP is set to static otherwise the change in the IP may not be making it over to the clients so they keep looking for PMS at the old address.

FYI resetting my router fixed this. Though for some reason my xbox 1 rarely works, often saying the server is offline. It works flawlessly on my ps4 and chromecast, aprat from x265 1080p videos, which buffer.
