I am setting the plex media for the first time, I downloaded the app for windows 7 (chrome web) and on my Samsung TV.
I have internet connections on booth of them, no VPN or firewall, I changed the network settings to Disabled and still I can’t connect to the media server on my TV.
Can you access your Plex Media Server from some other device in your home network (e.g. using Plex Web from a different device)?
The error message is not so much about both devices requiring an active internet access but they need to be accessible in general. As you already ruled out some network based blocking (e.g. based on a firewall), I take it the Plex Media Server app is running while you try to connect from your Samsung Plex client.
Any computer or phone/tablet connected to your home network should do. You can simply open http://[IP address of the device running your Plex server]:32400/web in a browser
But it works when you’re on the machine running your Plex Media Server (e.g. via http://127.0.0.1:32400/web)?
If it does… please go to Settings > [Server Name] > General to ensure Enable Plex Media Server debug logging is checked (but not the option about verbose logging next to it!).
When you’re done, try restarting your server app and afterwards download the Plex Media Server log files from Settings > [Server Name] > Manage > Troubleshooting > Download Logs. You should be able to post the entire zip file here.
Looks like Plex can indeed connect to the internet but fails with some of its requests.
Can you check your router and verify what DNS server it is using? Some ISP provided routers have their DNS servers set to own servers that fail to resolve certain addresses… for testing purposes you could set it to Google’s DNS (e.g. IP addresses 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4).
Another potential bottleneck could be if your router is blocking what it considers “DNS rebind attacks”. If your router has such a feature, you might want to set an exception for plex.direct.
Also… do you have some kind of firewall on your router that could interfere with Plex’ network internal communication (or on the machine running your Plex Media Server)? For proper communication between the Plex Media Server and plex clients inside your home network, the following ports need to be open:
So… I have tried all the solutions you suggested and nothing works.
I have changed the DNS server, I talked to ISP provider and there is no DNS rebind or firewall on the router.
The strange thing is that I can see the plex media server on my laptop, which means the network is fine, maybe the problem is with my TV? (Samsung MU9000)
