I can't get Plex Media Server to run on my Synology DS213j

Hi all,

I’m not very technically capable at all, so I have been doing a lot of reading on here and elsewhere about the problem I have had. I’ll describe it:

I have a Synology DS213j with a MARVELL Armada 370 88F6707, running DSM 6.2-23739 Update 2. The server was running fine about a week ago possibly.

Today I have been unable to access the server from my smart TV or my laptop running the web app.

I stopped and started the server without any luck. The network is working perfectly otherwise.

After researching the problem I began to suspect an update to DSM 6.2 which may have affected the app’s ability to run properly, so I uninstalled the old Synology Plex server and tried to install the new 64 bit version. This is without checking what processor I had - doh! Then when I tried to install the 64 bit server everyone was recommending, I get a message saying that it’s the wrong version. The I downloaded the other version, supposed to be for 32 bit, and that also says it’s the wrong version!

Another thing I tried… reinstalling the Plex server from the DSM Package Center. That now results in failure, with a notification that: Port 32400 configured for this package is either used by another service or reserved for system use. Please disable or modify the conflicting service, or contact the developer to modify the package configuration.

So currect situation: no PMS installed on my DS213j, and I don’t know what to do!

Could some kind soul please help me get on the right track with this?

Many thanks…

Irfan

Hi there trumpy81.

Thanks for your reply and advice - I’ve now successfully installed the server. Unfortunately I now can’t seem to enable the libraries to be scanned, but tht’s a different problem. I will look elsewhere on this forum.

Many thanks again

Thank you again. I am having trouble with the bit on Q18 - I have installed WInSCP and set it up as instructed in Q14. But When I issue the command sudo -su root into a terminal window I get an error message as follows: sudo: no tty present and no askpass program specified.

I thought I was following the instructions to the letter, but what am I doing wrong?

Thank you - going to try all that now.

Can I just ask, do you have any idea how the system could go from working perfectly to needing this amount of command line work???

Hello again. So I got to the part where I open WinSCP and edit the shortcut. Under the advanced/advanced part, I put the sudo -su root into the Shell box. I hope that’s correct.

I then went back to the instructions in Q18 and followed them.

And then when I went back to tghe Plex wizard and chose the folder it worked!

I still don’t understand how it all went so badly wrong, but thank you!

Thanks trumpy81. In terms of the “tinkering” I only ever do that when something breaks. And I do that reluctantly, because I’m not at all confident in all this, and by following instruction of helpful people like you. God bless you all!!! :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m concerned because I’m now wondering if I chose the wrong NAS a few years back, or I chose the wrong media server.

To answer the user/admin question - I never log in to my NAS as user because I have no need to be in there unless something needs fixing.

Regards
