Plex on My Synsology DS220j

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

Complete Noob here so apologies. So basically I bought the Synsology DS220j ages ago and set it up for my plex server. Followed all the steps and got it set up fine. Howevet I ran out of space as I had it Set up as Raid (?) on the Synsology so one of the 2TB hard drives was a back up.

I didnt realise this until much later when it was getting full. I dont need the back up as I have multiple already so I deledted the storage pool etc and re-formatted as JBOD.

However, after adding all my media again. Plex is not working, and I have tried uninstalling the media server, removing the User etc. nothing is fixing it.

When I install the media server then click it it says “We are unable to complete this request”

like I said I am completely new to all this and last time it was so simple but the Plex Server isnt playing ball now.

Any help is greatly appreciated and apologies if i start asking dumb questions in responses.

  1. DSM 6 or DSM 7?

  2. Do not use the version of Plex in the Package Center. It is out of date. Download the current version from plex.tv/download and perform a manual installation (select the Manual Install button in Package Center). You want the ARMv8 version of Plex Media Server. There are separate downloads for DSM 6 vs DSM 7. Grab the correct one or the installation will fail.

  3. For installation and initial configuration, point your browser directly at the NAS. Do not use app.plex.tv, Synology QuickConnect, etc.

Thanks for getting back so quick. Like I said noob so may be some daft things here. It is DSM6. I have downloaded for the manual install but it says that Port 32400 configured for this package is used?

Scratch that I got it installed but still getting the same error about “We are unable to complete this request”

Not 100% sure what you mean by this (*)? is this possibly the issue?

(*) 3. 1. For installation and initial configuration, point your browser directly at the NAS. Do not use app.plex.tv, Synology QuickConnect, etc.

Right scratch EVERYTHING.

If I had just slowed down and done what you said piece by piece we would have been fine.

It appears to be all up and running, thank you so much for you assistance.

Glad it is working.

FYI, if you ever do move to DSM 7, read the migration document very carefully before installing DSM 7.

DSM 7 is very different than DSM 6, and there are a lot of changes for Plex as well.
