I appreciate the existence of these new “sources” podcasts and web shows, but it’s far from great that they were automatically added to my account and showed up in all my players and my Apple TV, and I had to dig around to figure out how to get rid of them everywhere.
I use Plex and I paid for Plex in order to access MY media, and I don’t want extra stuff showing up by default without adding it myself. Please keep these additional offerings as optional, not things you force on all your users whether they asked for it or not.
That’s odd… I have disabled all online media sources via my account (see above) and there’s no sign of them in my Plex for Android TV client (running on a Sony TV).
Which exact versions of the Plex Media Server and Plex for Android do you have installed?
No problems on Mac/iOS after disabling all online sources. All sources (news, podcasts, web shows) are gone.
@raditokyo you could also try looking at your server settings -> Manage -> Libraries just in case somehow a library entry for web shows was created although this is unlikely to be the case.
Sadly, as they are account settings, they will appear for your users that have “shared” access.
As your “shared” users have their own plex accounts then these new things will show up for them unless they turn them off in their own account settings.
Right, and there would be no such issues if Plex didn’t automatically add stuff to people’s accounts that they didn’t add themselves.
Maybe Plex plans to make money or gain funding based on usage numbers of these additional sources, and therefore are incented to force them on users. That would be very sad.
I understand Plex is a business. They must make money.
Unfortunately, they are ostracizing many of the users who wanted / have supported devs in past with current directions.
I share the annoyance of having features added. But at least this time around we didn’t have to wait several months for a Disable option.
I will however point out that depending on the browser you use you may or may not see option to disable web shows. In Chrome browser it doesn’t show up under Online Media Sources but in Opera browser it does. Not really sure what’s up with that, but certainly weird.
