Web Shows not listed under Online Media Sources

Server Version#: 1.13.8.5395
Player Version#:3.67.1

I wish to disable “Web Shows” but it is not listed under “Online Media Sources”

WTF?

You need to use a newer version of Plex Web to see it. Please use the hosted version at https://app.plex.tv/desktop

…which prompts an additional question!
Why is my Plex Web out of date?

The online/hosted version is always some steps ahead. Also it looks like you’re on the latest public release of the Plex Media Server. Beta should already have a more recent version of Plex Web built-in for local access.

So, to be thorough, how do I (force) update my Plex Web ?

The local version you have that comes with PMS is set and cannot be updated. The hosted version is always the latest as that comes directly from Plex. Since the local version cannot be updated, it is usually 1 or 2 releases behind the hosted version to make sure it is stable and not very buggy. This will update when you update PMS. Minor PMS updates may include a Web update.

To summarise:
Plex released a version of PMS with a new feature that it is unable to provide a mechanism to disable until a future release.
Is that correct?

You can always use the hosted version.

Update:

I had to log on to the hosted Plex Web to disable the feature. This did not propogate to all the devices, or indeed any devices I use. I had to force close the plex app, clear the cache and restart the app…on every connected device.

For Plex Developers/Product Managers:

  • Please do not release spurious features like these with an [opt out] approach.
Rather, advise of their availability through notifications and employ an [opt in] deployment.
  • Always make sure the mechanism to enable/disable is available within the same release cycle of the effected product
  • Ensure any advice on your forums is accurate.
  • Accept responsiblity. Acknowledge errors. Apolgise.

Cheers

Seconded! Running Plex on TerraMaster TNAS… I shouldn’t have to use a web version to remove what amounts to junk that’s forced on my NAS’s app with absolutely no way to disable it.

Better check your facts before making such a strong statement. It’s a single checkbox in your account settings to get rid of podcasts, news or webshows each.

The topic of this thread was that some of the user‘s clients only recognized the change after logging out and in again — which seems to be more of a hiccup… for the wide majority of people I’ve been talking about this, updating the settings did the job at once.

Wow. Seriously, thank you for helping me decide that I won’t be buying any of Plex’s services if a slam is what I can expect for support.

I’ve been to the page. I’ve followed the link provided on this page.

Online? The option is present and already shows disabled. It was never enabled to begin with.

On all my devices? They show the category for Online Media. In the settings (whether the Rokus, the Fire Stick, or even on the NAS) I don’t have the option at all, only two spots to disable podcasts and news. There is no way to disable Online Media despite the fact that it will not go away and the only source to turn it off already has it disabled.

So yes, something I don’t want is being forced onto my devices with zero way of disabling it. Instead of being condescending, you could have offered to help or at least ask questions.

Update:

  • We are still unable to disable Web Shows locally
  • You have added more unwanted content (Tidal)

Please:

  • STOP adding unwanted content without local control
  • STOP using “opt out” , especially when there is no local control
  • UPDATE our local web client NOW
