I have just bought WD My Cloud Home NAS, I have put some .mp4 files on that and I wanted to watch it on my Android TV (Sony) through Plex app or Kodi, but I do not see any Folders or files from my WD My Cloud Home NAS.
The address of my WD is 192.168.1.33
On the TV, there is Plex app installed and Kodi Installed. In Kodi app, I have managed to install also “plex add-on”, but I do not see any folders or files from the WD.
On my laptop and on my smartphone, I have installed the official “WD discovery app” and also the Plex app.
When I run the WD app on my laptop or mobile, I see the files and folders on my WD NAS, including the “Plex” folder.
When I run the Plex app, I do not see any files or folders from my WD NAS.
When I type “http://192.168.1.33:32400/” in Google Chrome, the Plex app opens, but I do not see any files and folders from my WD NAS.
The problem is, that I do not see any files from my WD NAS on my Android TV.
Have you setup/configured your Plex Media Server on that WD MyCloud Home?
When you open http://192.168.1.33:32400/web through a browser from within the same local subnet, this should bring up an installation screen where you’re asked to name your server and link it to your Plex account.
IIRC the WD MyCloud Home should come with a set of preconfigured libraries. Those are hard-wired to the default media folders created by the WD for your Plex Media Server (e.g. Plex > Shared Movies or Plex > Shared TV Shows). Make sure your media is stored in those folders, then return to the Plex web app and let Plex scan the libraries so it can pick up your files and catalog them. Once this is done, the media will also show in the Plex app on your Android TV (native Plex app or Kodi add-on).
As a side note… the version of Plex Media Server shipped by WD is ancient (version 1.18.6 was released more than 2 years ago). A lot of things you find in the forum or support articles might not apply to that version.
When I open http://192.168.1.33:32400/web/index.html, I see the PLES web interface, with folders, such as “Movies and Shows on Plex”, or “movies”.
The folder “Movies” is empty. I can click “Scan library files” or “Manage Library”, but no files appear.
I do not have any folder “Shared TV shows” in the Plex app or the Plex web interface
I see a folder in the WD app “Plex” - “Shared Movies”, where I can put some .mp4 files.
It would be best if we could get in touch e.g. through Skype, where I could share my desktop on laptop, or I could show you setting in my TV and you would instruct me where to click. Please, can we get in touch through Skype?
After contacting the WD technical support , I gave up. I have returned the WD My Cloud Home to the seller and bought Synology DS118 NAS. I managed to set up the Synology NAS in 2 minutes. WD? Never again
