Devices cannot see files on server...?

I’m sorry if this seems like a remedial issue, but I have checked the FAQ, the forum and Western Digital and have burned about a day and change on the issue so far, so in the interest of potentially getting a usable solution before it gets to be too far down the road to return my network drive to fry’s I am turning to the forum and raising my issue directly.

I bought a WD MyCloud Home a week or so ago and it took a couple of days to figure out that Plex is now the solution for playing movies.

It took another moment or so to get all of the apps and new accounts for Plex together on my PC and Roku devices.

I placed a single mp4 and a single jpg into the Shared Movies and Shared Photos folders that are found in the root of the Plex directory on the My Cloud Home drive that is on the network.

Now everything looks like it is working (But not well enough to be functional…), that is to say that the Plex app on the Roku has access to the internet and can see podcasts and webshows (But nothing in terms of files on the server. Neither the mp4 or the jpg are visible anywhere in the app…)

On the web based app showing my account, I can see the Roku as an authorized device… But again, I cannot see any of the files that are on the drive.

The one place I can see the files is in the Windows Explorer that is opened by the Western Digital Discovery app.

Can anyone help me out with a suggestion as to which step I might be missing…?

Thanks.

Assuming that the files are in the correct folders, you have to update the respective libraries after adding any media files. Open plex.tv/web in a browser and click on the three dots next to your library. Then, click “Scan Library Files”. Your files should appear in Plex once the scan is complete.

That worked.

Thanks…!!
