I get subtitles even if they are disabled: Pasteboard - Uploaded Image
When viewing the content on my Samsung TV (The Frame) I get the black subtitles. I have disabled subtitles in the TV. If I enable them I get two sets of subtitles.
When I view the content on the PC there I don’t get the black subtitles.
Looks like “EIA-608 closed captions”. These are encoded directly into the video stream and quite difficult to remove.
EIA-608, also known as "line 21 captions" and "CEA-608", was once the standard for closed captioning for NTSC TV broadcasts in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Okay I found a solution - it seems that the Samsung guide did not work.
Instead I found out I could just remove the CC from the MKV directly.
This is done with this ffmpeg command
ffmpeg -i input.mkv -codec copy -bsf:v "filter_units=remove_types=6" output.mkv
