Forgive me if this has been written before. I have 2 versions of one movie. One is Black and White the other is Color. How can I add both of them so it will pick up both versions. I try and it just overlaps my Black and White one with the Color one so it still only shows one this is frustrating. If I can have both can they show up side by side? If not how would I do it so I can get both of them to work…
I have tried writing it like this but it still overlaps it. Heidi (1937) {Color} I have tried these as well Heidi (1937) [Color] and Heidi (1937) (Color) but it still over laps or doesn’t pick it up what am I doing wrong…
You are so awesome thank you, thank you. It worked. Is there a way to combine it with the Black and White version or like a Collection so you just open one?
One more stupid question can you give me all the verbiage on how to right all these extras just incase I run into other types of editions I would appreciate it you can use Heidi as an example and list the other ones on how to write them.
There are no pre-defined labels. You can use anything after edition-.
(Of course you should aim for some uniformity inside your library, to make filtering for editions useful. Keep it short and sweet.)
Do I have to name the folders Like Directors Cut will it pick it up that way and Black and White Etc or do you have a better way to name these Movie Folders this is what I have as folder names.
And one more question The Heidi (1973) under the poster says the same thing is there a way to change that or you have to open it up to see what edition it is? Please see the photo. Right now I would have to open it up to know what version it is.
I thought you wanted to see these separately? Wasn’t that your original request.
If you only want to see 1 poster, remove the edition information and it will go back to using Versions which will combine them into 1 poster. I think this is wat you had originally. You can choose which to play by clicking on “Play Version” from the … menu instead of just hitting play. We don’t handle this very well and it’s hard to tell which version is which from the menu you will be shown, but that is what you do if you only want to see 1 poster.
Alternatively, you can put these into a collection so you only see the collection in the library view.
And one more question The Heidi (1973) under the poster says the same thing is there a way to change that or you have to open it up to see what edition it is?
If you did the multiple editions properly you should see the edition name after the year.
So how do you still separate the black and white from color version and still make it a collection. How would you write that? And how do you do it properly so it shows up with what version you have next to it like you have pictured am I’m missing something on how it should be written? This is how I’m writing it see below.
Heidi (1937) {edition-Black and White}
Heidi (1937) {edition-Color}
If it were me, I’d give up on the {edition-blahblah} stuff and separate out the files manually.
If you add both movies as-is (without the {}edition flags), Plex will combine them into one item in your library. Then, click the ... button and choose Split Apart. This separates each file into their own Library entry. Check to see which is which based on filename by doing ... and then Get Info, looking at the source filename. Edit the “Title” of each file to include the version info, such as Heidi - Colorized and Heidi - B&W. If you can manage to find a color and B&W copy of the poster, change them as well. Change the description of the movie in the metadata as well, if you wish.
You will then have two entries that show up side-by-side in your library, each with a descriptive title that shows up anywhere you might see it (search, browsing, now playing, etc).
