So I have two installations of Plex media server, one on a Nvidia Shield Pro that I use for myself and a second server that is hosted remotely, which I share with friends and family. They both access the same content which is hosted on Google Drive via an rclone mount. In the home set up the rclone mount is on a Raspberry Pi 4, which the Shield accesses via a samba share.
For the most part this works perfectly and I’m able to direct stream 4k content at home without issues.
The problem I am having is an odd one. Every now and again I will have a Film or TV show that will show up on one of the servers but not the other. This is obviously bizarre as both Plex servers are accessing the same data. Some times this can be fixed with a rescan of the library, but on other occasions that doesn’t help either.
For the past 48 hours I have had a Danish film called ‘The Holiday’ that shows up on the friends and family server, but not on the local Shield server. I have tried re-scanning the library, rebooting the Shield and also the Raspberry Pi, however still nothing.
Can anyone suggest what could be causing this, or any way I can troubleshoot the issue?
Are both servers and their libraries use the same scanner/agent settings and do your servers’ agent settings match?
Beyond that… it might be worth to review the structure and file names of your content. I’ve seen a number of users who got mixed results when their naming was (far) off from that suggested by Plex.
Yep, I just double checked and all scanner/agent settings match (both using the new Plex movie agent) Structure and file names and well organised (I use Radarr to rename everything) and bare in mind that one server is seeing the content, so the naming shouldn’t be an issue. This is the name of the file I can’t get to show up right now ‘Holiday (2018) Bluray-1080p.mkv’
It’s a real head scratcher!
Anything else I can potentially check?
@tom80H So something else rather odd I’ve noticed is that despite the locale and scanner/agent settings being identical on both servers, the cover art seems to be different for a lot of my content.
If your configurations match and you scan/match your libraries on both servers you should get the same results. With the new Plex Movie agent there’s also no longer the issue of different agent source sequences/priorities.
Have you verified those settings down to the advanced tab of each library?
Yes, I’ve tripled checked and everything is identical. I’ve also checked the agents are set up the same way in the main settings.
Is it possible the two issues are related?
I’ve just stopped the media server on the shield (this is the one that has at least one item not showing, so I’m more inclined to think the issue is here)
Just noticed there is an update for PMS on the Shield so I’ll do that just to ensure everything is up to date (I updated PMS on the remote server last night)
I’m going to delete the Rclone cache on the Raspberry Pi (This is how the Shield accesses the content via a samba share) I don’t see how this could be an issue as it can’t affect the metadata, but it certainly won’t hurt.
re-start PMS on the shield and do a library scan/refresh media
Any other suggestions for tests/tweaks/troubleshooting tips that I can do?
just to rule it out… are any of the missing ones part of a collection that might have existed before you upgraded your library to the new Plex Movie agent?
No, I have auto collections switched off and it’s not part of any collections I’ve manually put together.
When it comes to finding content should the agent/scanner used even matter? ie does it not normally just show up as unmatched content, even if it isn’t recognised?
The scanner is the component that’ll find your content in your file system.
If it appears Plex is completely missing movies you might want to check for duplicates (assuming Plex has accidentally mismatched a movie and merged it with as another one).
I suppose you’re using the same credentials to access that Samba share?
Oh well done that man!
You’ve just helped me solve one of the issues. The film I was looking for had been mismatched! A bit of digging around and I discovered another new film that had appeared around that time that didn’t appear to be on the remote server. Lo and behold it was the mismatched movie.
Obviously doesn’t explain why the two servers, apparently using identical agents and scanners are matching things differently though.
All the meta data is still different as well.
Just to clarify, the metadata for the Movie library (using the new scanner/agent) matches across both servers.
It’s the TV libraries that have the mismatch and they are both using the TVDB agent. I’m not sure if this is relevant?
Are those mp4/m4v files with embedded metadata?
According to TheTVDb, the show’s official name is “Suburra: Blood of Rome”. However, TheTVDb.com has no artwork for season 3. That explains why the donkey kong server shows the show artwork for season 3. If the s3 poster was only taken down recently, your king kong server might still have downloaded it.
Can you check Settings > Donkey Kong > Agents > Shows > The TVDB…
Does is have Local Media Assets listed above the other sources?
