I want more security // mod: increasing wait after entering wrong pin

Hi @ll.

I miss a security feature in Plex Client.
You can try the codenumber much as you like until you get the right combination.
Isnt great with children wich playing around.

So i want a security feature that gives you more and more seconds to wait if you enter the wrong code.
After 3 trys for example you have to wait an hour.
I think many guys here could need this on their Plex Servers.

Sorry for my bad english…hope you understand

That gives your kids a built in denial of service to prevent you from watching plex…I would not like that at all.

It can’t hurt.
I’d go with denial of service as apposed to deletion of media any day.

@NewPlaza - Why would your media be deleted because your child is trying to get into your plex server? This has nothing to do with remote security really, only the 4 digit pin you log into your local plex user with.

Don’t use 0000 or 1234 as your pin and you’ll be fine. Roku has the same parental control 4 digit pin lock screen so I don’t know how much more secure plex can get to prevent kids from getting into your stuff. kids are kids. they’ll find a way.

@drinehart
I assume the OP wants more security for the admin account. From what I can tell the OP has managed account and wants to lock the admin. If you can just keep entering in the pin until you get it then, if media deletion is enabled(if all things are equal then the option is ON), the user can start deleting media from the server.

@NewPlaza - I get that, but the PIN is not the ONLY thing used for remote access. You have to sign in to Plex/PMS as well with your Plex account (if things are set up properly), right? If they already have your plex credentials, guessing your PIN is not your biggest concern I would think.

If you are talking about your kids getting in and messing with things, then motivate them not to do that (and have backups in case they do).

And if you guys want another wonderful security issue with PINs (this is not Plex fault) but you have to enter the PIN on the Roku devices in a way that is visible to everyone in the room (unless you use the Roku app on a mobile device and use the keyboard function). In the end, we no longer use PINs in our family since that is our primary viewing platform.

I don’t know how others have PLEX setup but I consider kids as guests because they are… they are a guest and sometimes a pest. With that said, I have locked and unlocked “passes” for libraries catered to each group in our household. All kids related libraries are setup for the kids “pass” where its unlocked. For anything rated-R and stuff, thats locked. You’re truly not going to prevent everything from being untampered with because there will always be an older sibling who has access to the locked library and won’t listen to you as a parent and give out the pin to the younger kid. I’ve been there. Consider your kids as guests until they contribute to your media library… until then, they’re leeches.

WTF!. The OP is talking about keeping the kids away from the porn.

So - set up a different server, do not share with the kids accounts, but do share with your other plex account. Don’t rely on home users in this case. Where TF does the OP mention porn?

LOL! Yes. I’m taking the ass out of assume.

No worries - but seriously, it is a lot more overhead having a second server, but having one allows for far better control of sharing between users that doesn’t allow a 4 digit pin alone to access content that you otherwise would not want the kids to see (for whatever reason). It is more overhead, but if that allows my kids to not access the content, it may well be worthwhile.

For me, if my kids sign in to my account to watch movies they are not supposed to (rated R - not porn or home videos or anything) then they know there are consequences because I will find out. They know it (PlexPy) logs, and they know I check. In my case, the world will not end if they hear f**k or see tttes or something else, but some of their freedom will, if only temporarily. Nothing more exciting than R-rated movies on my Plex server, though.

True… But this is only a feature request.
Don’t crush his dreams. Let’s give him hope.
