I have a great Pro plan with my web site hosting company where I can have unlimited storage. Is there a way to have Plex be able to play media from the remote (cloud server)
Cloud sync which has never worked great or if you can mount the cloud storage as a drive on your computer and point plex towards it.
I can mount the network drive no problem, but will the media be served directly from the host site or will it come down to my computer first then get served out? If it is the later it does not help me much in terms of upload speeds.
It’s the first, as what you ask for the second is what the Plex Cloud Beta is all about. Hosting the media on a cloud resource and having Microsoft Azure run the PMS on their hardware. The only thing your hardware would be sued for it setting it all up, from my understanding.
Right now the Plex cloud Beta only works with a few Cloud providers, and was an utter failure with Amazon’s for some reason. (Even though it was the first Cloud provider Plex used in the Beta.) Amazon’s service is no longer an option.
Well as long as I am streaming the media only to myself and my family there should be no issues of illegal sharing.

Also just a word of caution with “web hosts” even though they do say unlimited, a lot of times with them if you are hosting a ton of media files they will shut you down. For them unlimited isn’t always unlimited, make sure you read the fine print. There are a lot of people that use cloud storage for storing their media, might want to look into that.
Kraevin beat me to it. You do this, and I suspect you’ll quickly find that “unlimited” isn’t really “unlimited” at all.
You will likely have bandwidth issues too, unless you’re paying huge bucks for a top-tier plan. In which case there’s better ways to invest your money to accomplish this.
Then there’s the whole thing about storing copyrighted material on your webhost. They aren’t going to care one bit who you say you’re sharing it with. Their stance is going to be quite different, quite strict, and the reaction quite harsh.
