If files are hosted on Plex Cloud is the local plex server still used to play the files?

I have plex server running on a Seagate Cloud Storage device and files hosted on google drive but in the last week nothing is playing and even starting to load the files seems extremely slow. Problem is not Google Drive as the movies play perfectly through the Google Drive interface.

I upgraded to latest Plex server recently so my question is although the movies are hosted on Plex Cloud is my local Plex server still involved in playing the movies or do Plex have some sort of a Cloud based Plex server that plays them on the cloud as that would seem to be the reasonable way to do this?

You Plex media server is pulling down the movies and handing this back out to your clients.

Thanks @cayars . I would have said then that maybe my plex server is not up to the job but I have added no more content than I had last week when all was going ok? Would be nice if Plex could off the option of hosting your plex server for you on the Cloud? Are there any off the shelf Cloud Based servers that can be purchased?

I am confused by your various uses of the word “Cloud”. Plex already offers am off the shelf Cloud Based server. Plex Cloud is a service available to Plex Pass users where your media is stored on Google Drive or OneDrive or DropBox & the Plex Cloud server is off in the Cloud too. All you need is an Internet connection & very good it is too.

Is your device a Seagate Personal Cloud? If so until I moved to Plex Cloud I used the 4TB version as my Plex server & very good it was too provided that I used a decent client that could Direct Play everything.

I’m not sure how Google Drive plays in your situation. Are you synching your Seagate device to Google Drive so that there is a backup? You can run PMS on a Mac, Linux or Windows PC & mount your Google Drive on that local PC.

Sadly you missed the boat. Plex have withdrawn exactly what youre looking for. You’re only option will be a VPS or similar.
