I had a unrecoverable BSOD after plugging in a display port dongle into my Quadro.
So I’m reinstalling Windows. My database is a separate partition and is intact. How do I properly restore my database from this drive without loosing my data?

So what you are saying is you install plex on a secondary drive, not the OS drive, right?
If so, this could help you in the long run. That means your metadata is probably stored off the OS drive.
IF all conditions are right. You can just install plex into the same location as before. Most settings will stick. You will most likely need to re-claim your server.
The rest i’m not sure… I’m unclear if you have to re-invite family & friends(I think you won’t cause that should be stored on plexs’ site…) But I could be wrong.
Install Plex and open it up.
Make sure your external drive has the same drive letter as it had before. (not exactly necessary, but just to be on the safe side).
Edit the preference
Settings - Server - General - Show Advanced - ‘The path where local application data is stored’
type in the location of your old Plex data folder
Beware! The path you type in must not include ‘Plex Media Server’ as last part.
So if your plex data reside inG:\plexdata\Plex Media Server\, you type only
G:\plexdatainto the input field.
Restart Plex server.
As @newplaza wrote above, you may have to re-claim your server and edit permissions of all your shared users - unless you also have a backup of the Plex branch of your Windows Registry which contains your machine IDs.
If you do have a backup of the registry, instead of doing the above all you need to do is:
- close plex server
- import the registry backup
- start plex server
Plex was installed on the OS drive. I have a second partition on the SSD just for Plex Database and that’s still intact.
Yes irrespective of which drive you install the plex server the db is in app data on OS drive.
Not, if you moved it previously.

With “Plex database”, do you mean your media files
or do you mean the Plex data folder?
The database. I moved the database to the D drive immediately when I built the server a year ago.
My media is in several different locations.
Then you are good to go.
Follow the method I laid out above.
Both my server and client in F drive SSD and OS drive is Nvme m.2 faster than thes
Worked like a champ! Thank you!
