Hi guys
having trouble with plex showing $RECYCLE.BIN
of all the movies i deleted.
i tried to add
@Recycle/*
RARBG.com.mp4
$RECYCLE.BIN
RECYCLE.BIN
$RECYCLE.BIN/
and save it as .plexignore and place it in my movie root folder
but sadly does not work
(windows 10)
any ideas?
Unless I completely misunderstand…:
When you delete an item from a Plex app they go into the recycle bin. What happens if you delete them (for real) from the recycle bin? I’ve never seen $RECYCLE.BIN when looking at Plex so I’m assuming that’s Plex’s way of telling you they’re still there if you’ve changed your mind and want to restore them.
If you haven’t emptied the recycle bin for a while it’s probably going to take some time - depending on size and number of items.
You do know that as long as they’re in that recycle bin they’re still eating up space on the drive, even though they’ve been removed from the library. Nothing is really gone until you empty the recycle bin - then you get that space back.
Never point a Plex library to the root folder of a drive.
Always create at least a subfolder. Otherwise automatic library updates won’t work…
… and you have to deal with those pesky recycle bin issues.
^^I thought about that a while ago, but was SURE nobody would ever point a library at the root of the OS drive…

Does this to me also. And it’s not pointed to the root. My QNAP nas automatically creates Recycle bins in each share I have. I may be able to turn it off, but it’s nice having a backup should I drunkenly delete a movie or show. I just make it a habit of always emptying that folder if I delete something on purpose because it will always show back up in plex if it remains in the recycle bin.
Morning guys
Thanks for all the inputs, it worked to put them into a sub folder and not make plex point directly to the drive
thanks a lot
For those that are using NAS’s, you should be able to apply permissions to the folder, such as “Deny” read access for the Plex user account to the recycle bin, so that it wont see that folder in the first place.
