I am loving using the new Discovery tab to keep track of new TV shows I want watch. I really love the way it integrates and displays information about shows from IMBD, and lets me easily make a global watchlist of all the shows I eventually want to get to. However, there is one weird interface quirk that keeps bothering me.
Some shows, especially streaming shows, have “Specials” that are like extra shorts or bonus content from the show that are not regular episodes. It seems like IMDB takes all these shorts and groups then together as a separate “season” of the show called “Specials.”
I don’t really find the “Specials” information all that useful, but, still, I don’t mind it being included on the page. I am just a little annoyed that the information about the show counts this “Specials” category like it is an extra season of the show.
So, for example, take the Umbrella Academy, which is a great show that now has 3 full seasons available to watch. However, there are also some “Specials,” so the Discover information about the Umbrella Academy actually says that it has 4 Seasons.
This is pretty confusing because it suggests that there might be a new season available for the show when in reality it is just counting the “Specials” as their own season. Also, not every show has “Specials” so you can never be sure what the season count actually means for any given show.
It would make way for more sense if the season count just ignored the “Specials” category and simply displayed the number of actual seasons of the show.
