Hey all can anyone confirm if there is a way for plex to ignore words in the naming scheme?
I’m fairly sure I saw while randomly browsing a thread that it was mentioned that anything in squared brackets […] that Plex will ignore. I searched squared brackets within the wiki but didn’'t really see anything. I’m aware of plex.ignore but my scenario is that I’m looking at adding info to some season folders… Remux, 2160p etc… without upsetting Plex naming rules.
Thanks in advance.
Yes, you should be good when enclosing additional info in square brackets. But only if the rest of the names conforms to Plex’s naming requirements.
The square bracket solution only works in movie and tv show libraries.

Thanks for the amazingly quick reply.
Yeah Im all good with Plex naming… but just currently I’m trying to keep track of varying qualities for my seasons of various shows for upgrade purposes. I pondered one of the programs that allow you to change folder colours and keep track that way, however I’m kinda worried if i would lose it all if I ever need to reinstall my server. I think the squared bracket option will be much more permanent,
Thanks again Otto.
Tip: in case you haven’t installed it already: this is very useful for knowing what’s inside files
download mediainfo here
(pay attention during installation, it comes with a ‘piggybacked’ installer which asks to install additional crapware. Make sure to set/clear the right checkboxes!)

Yeah thanks Otto.
I already use media info extensively. Also the episode titles are also named including quality. But its pretty sweet knowing i can see a quality of a season pack without actually having to browse inside the folder at all. ![]()
