I'm close to giving up on plex and going to another platform

I have been using plex since 2013… i bought the lifetime subscription when it first came out, i was a HUGE advocate of Plex and used to tell everyone about how wonderful it was.

I’ve used it constantly and we still use it every night of the week but recently the rush to develop new features seems to destroying the basic functionality of the product

I used to eagerly await the plex pass releases, my wife patiently put up with all the bugs in plex home thearter and we have dealt with problems because of my love for the product

BUT…

jeeze… We used to have plex gurus that would answer a question when we had a problem, now thats gone
grr… Plex for Echo was released but it wont even play a tv series back to back episodes and i have never had a forum post replied to about this
ugh… Plex media player used to have on the deck but now we have some stupid welcome message and i have to browse through a menu to find the show we want to watch instead of just using on the deck

Snap…Today was the final straw for me though, plex media player updated to 2.2.1.758 and now when i play a tv series in between every episode some stupid screen comes up with a count down timer on it and we have to sit and wait 12 seconds to watch the next episode… WTF
Ok so some people out there may want this feature, i dont know why, but WHY WHY WHY do you have to force it on everyone? if you add a “Feature” give the people that don’t want it to switch to turn it off

I’ve really had enough of all these features that don’t really work, now i cant even watch a tv series (something i do every night of the week) without having to sit and stare at a plex screen for 12 seconds in between each episode and i cant do anything about it

My confidence in these forums has degraded since the days of the plex pass gurus and i don’t expect any constructive response (I’ve used plex for a loooong time so no it hasn’t ALWAYS done this), i was just so angry that this product, that i have loved so much and for so long, I am finally going to give up on it because the developers are more interested in adding new features than looking after the basics like immersive tv watching which was the basic idea of the product in the 1st place

Arrrggghhhhh!!!

Now im going to go cry about how much i used to love this product

The Plex Ninja’s are still around. It’s just the board has grown quite a bit since 2013 and there aren’t enough Ninja’s to catch every thread now. They, along with staffers try to get to everything, but some threads may get missed or just don’t really need the attention of a Ninja or staffer.

If you mean Alexa, I’ll have to double check but the next episode should play.

Can you provide screenshots? I see OnDeck, Recently Added TV, Recently Added Movies

This is the post play screen. It’s been there for a while. It’s not new.

I’ve really had enough of all these features that don’t really work, now i cant even watch a tv series (something i do every night of the week) without having to sit and stare at a plex screen for 12 seconds in between each episode and i cant do anything about it
You can skip the countdown by hitting play.

@“MovieFan.Plex”

Thanks for your reply

This is a screen shot of my plex media player

it happened a while ago, honestly i dont really care about this but it did destroy any wish i had to actually use the tv as my main form of input as on the deck had now disappeard

From what i understand if is say to Echo “play tv series breaking bad” or “play season 1 of breaking bad” it should play the episodes back to back, i went and bought an echo for this feature but it doesn’t it just plays a single episode and then brings me back to the plex welcome message
I tried the forums about this and didnt get any response at all, I then put a complaint on your webpage about and it and got a response saying it was a known issue between some players and echo and you were looking into it but it still doesn’t work, i learned to live with that even though to me its a pretty basic function that should work

yesterday i updated my mac operating system and plex media player updated automatically, it has been set to automatic update for a while so i assumed it had the latest version on it but i can promise you that up to sunday night i have never seen a 12 seconds of plex screen between episodes and we watch tv series every night of the week
my wife went mad about this, shes had enough of plex and im getting the flack for it, why does plex feel like it has to tell us its here and FORCE us to look at it for 12 seconds! in between episodes

I dont want to press a button to skip it, on sunday night i didnt have to skip it, it automatically played the next episode, why am i now now forced to interact with it or stare at a plex screen for 12 seconds? honestly who ever had this idea should have had the idea to put a switch in to the setting at the same time for all the people that actually want watch immersive tv series which i thought was the whole point of plex

Please can you tell me how i roll back the version so when my wife gets home its removed

Apologies if i should annoyed but this sudden invasion into our life has not gone down very well in our household

thanks again for replying

Is reverting to PMPv1.3.12 Public release an acceptable option for?

if it doesn’t have the 12 second delay between episodes then that would be great, ill download it and see

just so your aware, with this new version when you tell echo to stop playing it doesnt stop playing it goes straight to that 12 second screen and then plays the next episode and you have to tell echo to stop again for it to actually stop

I have also experienced stopping a program and it going to a blank blurry background screen with nothing on it and when you try and play a different series from plex web to control it you get the 12 second screen again with audio in the background of the episode you were supposed to be watching, when the 12 seconds count down it just sits there with the 12 second screen and the audio playing in the back ground, the only way i have found to fix this is to exit and restart plex media player

That is the very first screen when you start the app fort he first time. Go ahead and move the cursor up to the top to one of the other categories then back over to home. You should now have the home screen.

I confirmed that when using Alexa, only 1 episode is played. The devs are working on a fix and should be available soon, maybe even in the next update.

For that post-play screen, the idea is that in addition to just playing the next episode, this screen also gives you the option to play other related items without having to go back to the menu. If all you want is to binge watch a show, I can see how this would get in the way.

I am currently split between PMPv1.3.12 in the living room and PMPv2.2.1 in the master bedroom. If you revert back to 1.3.12, the autoplay screen feature will not be included.

@“MovieFan.Plex” Thanks, i have pressed those buttons before but it never went back to on the deck home always takes me to the welcome screen, i just assumed you got rid of on the deck
I tested it agaoin today on the new version and the buttons now dont do anything at all, i tried to restart it but it still did the same
Also when you do stop a show by telling echo to stop it it just goes to the blury screen with nothing on it and you have to exit the app as you cant start another show again

@Achilles Thanks so much for letting me know, I’ll down grade tomorrow and hopefully that will make my wife happy

Apologies to both of you for the late reply, Christmas getting in the way, i think the short term solution is to downgrade to 1.3.12 and then turn off auto update and i just wont update it again

Thanks for all your help and i really hope you decide to at least put a setting into it to remove the 12 seconds of boredom screen and you get the other bugs fixed

Cheers and merry Christmas

Just curious. Did you actually select any of your libraries? With the new way PMP works, you don’t pick a server so it will choose it automatically depending on the last library you chose. If you haven’t chosen a library, then it won’t know what server to get the OnDeck info from. Give that a try before downgrading just to see if that part works for you.
