I'm getting an unexpected error in Plex

Player Version#: Version 4.121.1

I added a new (old) band to my database recently and something funky happened. I can play the music and see the actual album (a greatest hits), but clicking on the band name to edit the poster background I am denied access. Anyone else see this type of thing? I tried taking it out and changing the band name, but nothing changed. My next option will be to find another new band (at least to my database) and see if that one takes. I can’t imagine what the issue is. The songs play find and the artwork is there. All I want to do is change the poster from black & white to color (I do that with every single entry) and go from The Wake to Wake, The so it sorts right.

See if the error goes away if you use the local web app instead.
If it does, it is a known issue and appears to happen with artists which don’t have at least one regular album.

That worked Otto. Thank you. However the only reason I downloaded a Greatest Hits record is because they have several records and I didn’t know any of them. They suffered from sounding too much like New Order I’m told. Based on what you are telling me I wonder if the issue might correct itself if I added their first record Harmony. Thank you for the quick response. It’s funny, if I hadn’t had the server claiming issue months back I would never have known the difference between Local and TV Web host. Now I have them both bookmarked since I have to open Plex as Administrator every time I want to use the software. Still, even with that annoyance it was working perfectly until this issue popped up. I can work around it, but I hope it’s in the pipeline to be addressed. Merry Christmas!

For the record it righted itself when I added the first album. Now it works fine again. Thanks again…

I’m still seeing this issue. I can use the Android Plex app and select ‘go to artist’ and it works, but the web version will not successfully navigate to the ‘artist page’ which displays albums if there are only complilations are in the library. This doesn’t happen on a browser operated on the actual server.

I’m assuming my error is the same as Nacho999’s.

Is there a ticket just eventually get this sorted out? Thank you for your help!

Hey Brian - If I were in your shoes I would add a record from that band’s catalogue if there is one. As soon as I added a record from my band’s (The Wake) catalogue the Web App kicked in. I’m Otto and company will address the issue eventually, but short term, try adding another record to that entry if you can. If one doesn’t exist, maybe you make a dummy one to try and fool the software (terminology might be wrong there). Maybe use a digital file of Pink Floyd’s Animals or Yes’ Close To The Edge (because they are 3 song records) and change the titles to your band Song 1, 2, & 3 and re-scan locally. Maybe it’ll force the web app to comply somehow (this is totally a guess). If it works, afterwards you could try to delete that entry to see if it took you know? I’m no tech support guru so if this doesn’t work I’ll bow out, but adding The Wake’s first record worked for me like a dream. Before that I could see the greatest hits package locally, but not via the web app.

P.S. I did make some changes to the local host (new picture and changing The Wake or Wake to Wake, The…It would have sorted fine, but I do that to all my entries), but I don’t recall if the web app woke up at that point or if I needed to add the first record. It turned out to be a decent work around. I’ll let Otto take it from here. Good luck. - John
