If I remove & re-add my hard drive/folder, it works - but then it has to rescan in everything on that drive and in that folder.
This is the folder I’m currently putting media in:
/media/justin/WD2TB/Movies, and it’s rights are drwxrwxrwx 1 root root.
It feels kinda like it could be a permissions issue, maybe…but in the same breath, since it works when I remove the media from PMS, and then re-add it it works just fine. I’ve had some issues in the past with this, and resolved them, but upon trying to fix non-PMS ubuntu issues, and upgrading to the latest ubuntu version, I’ve not had any luck fixing this annoying little problem.
That very much looks like a permission issue… default mounting assigns the drive either to root or the active user which are both not visible to the plex user used by the Plex Media Server.
Check out these tips & tricks records (depending on the protocol used to mount the drive): Mounting Samba/CIFS / NFS network shares for Plex Media Server.
Also… if you’re having issues with the connection of a drive, disable automatic deletion of your media from the library by uncheckingSettings > [Server] > Library > Empty trash automatically after every scan. This way, if a drive’s connection is lost, Plex will keep the record but display a trash can on the poster… to actually delete it from Plex you’ll need to manually Empty Trash for that library using the library context menu.
Thanks for the quick reply - I’ve combed through this page numerous times over the past few days, and couldn’t find my ‘fix’. After being pointed back at that page again, I’d found that in my override.conf file, I’d actually specified a non-plex user…not sure when/why I did that, but I commented that out of that file, restarted, and bingo bango - things are working normally again.
