I'm tired of my Anime Collection getting wrecked by Plex TV Series!

Y’all help me out on this, Maybe I’m being retarded.
I have a huge anime collection, collected over years of DVDs.
I can’t seem to get this to work and stay.

Example,
My Naruto Dvds are divided by season 5 in total. That is how I organized my folders.
Plex has the plex tv series and it shames your for using anything else. Saying you need to upgrade library all the time. It only pulls from TMDB… and they have Naruto at 4 seasons.
BLEACH is even worse TMDB condensed 17 seasons into 1…

So I try to just use plex scanner as set it to TVDB… but every time I update my server it knocks it back to TMDB… AND COMPLETLY F****S my anime collection.

Is there a fix a don’t know about?

Server Version#: 1.41.3.9314

The Plex TV Series agent defaults to TMDB ordering, but it also supports all available TVDB orderings. You can change the library default to TVDB (aired) ordering via Manage Library > Edit > Advanced > Episode ordering, or change it on a per-series basis via the similar Edit show > Advanced > Episode ordering. It looks like TVDB’s Aired and DVD orders both have 5 seasons for Naruto. The metadata will still be a combination of different sources, but the core episode will be matched based on the episode ordering you choose.

it shames your for using anything else.

Because Plex is planning on completely removing the infrastructure that supports legacy agents ~soon, and it has already been removed from Shield servers (including third-party agents like the Anime-focused HAMA). There is a plan to overhaul the API that should usher in a “new era” of third-party metadata agents, but since the current system will go away eventually, you get a warning when you try to use a legacy agent.

Yeah, I’m not going to hold my breath on that overhaul. I have to say I feel stupid for not noticing that option below. Let’s remember I went in to this saying I was possibly being retarded.

Just to chime in a bit - you aren’t alone on being frustrated trying to get anime to present well in Plex. The thing is, anime by its nature (particularly fansubs) just has always been a bit different to manage in numbering and naming so all the media center apps (like Jellyfin, Kodi, Emby, Infuse and even XBMC back in the day) had this same issue with anime. Even sites that track anime shows can’t agree on it - lots of debate on if something is a coer or a season or a new series or if an OVA should be categorized as a special or a movie release.

The only way you can organize your stuff your own way is to either use the Personal Media agent or just use a basic DLNA server and manage all the metadata yourself - which kinda defeats some of the advantages of Plex but it is a option.

So I guess I’m just trying to say not to take it too personally and kinda just accept that managing anime in general might be frustrating to some degree; at least we’re not fighting codec and font packs anymore. Heck Plex even lets us set default dub\sub settings per show in the same library now.

Anyways, I usually pick and choose my anime episode ordering between what lines up with TMDB and what lines up with TVDB DVD Order or TVDB Absolute Order (which I had to use for Naruto because the release I grabbed almost 20 years ago was numbered 1-220). Between those options I can usually get it sorted and if that doesn’t work then some of the batch file rename utilities work well - Filebot is pretty popular one but the Mac built in rename works pretty well for me most of the time.

Good luck!

Thanks, I definitely see the improvement. I have been with plex for ages… 2010?11?12… somewhere in there… It definitely has gotten better but this evolution into media distributor has negated speed on the development of personal databases of media.

I have been asking for Audiobook support since forever and before that… still nothing. However, the have been phasing out plugins since I got a life time pass in 2014… so I guess it’s just life.
