Image gallery playback is slow and consumes 100% CPU

Hello Suppor Team,

I used to be a Plex pass user, but since this issue is kind of annoying, I’ve cancelled my subscription…

This is my setup / chain:

  • Synology Disc Station DS216j
  • Plex Server running on DS216j (Plex Version 1.13.9)
    ** Netgear r6400v2 WiFi Router
    *** iPhone 6s Plus (all latest updates installed)
    *** MacBook Pro
    *** Chromecast 4K
    The available bandwidth is not the bottleneck: I can download Data from my DSJ at 80 Mb/s (not megabits… its MegaBytes) to my Mac/iPhone.

My problem is the following:
I have an image library that I’d like to “stream” to my TV, iPhone or Browser. For some reason the CPU consumption rises to 100% once I start an image playback on my Mac, iPhone or Chromecast. If I’m on Mac/iPhone, I’ll get to see the images finally showing off one by one after quite some waiting time. Some images appear slow, some even slower.
Concerning the Chromecast: Here I get to see no image at all, it just shows that waiting circle in the middle of the screen…

If you read my Log below you can see that Plex seems to transcode each and every image before sending it to the device. I don’t need any such transcoding job. Inside the settings I have turned it (transcoding) off (to my best knowledge).

Besides images I have tons of HiFi Audio files. This works just great. No transcoding bla bla - just streaming the actual source file to the client. I like that.

thank you for your fast reply.
Given the „weak“ hardware- what Discstation would you recommend me to purchase? I only need to display images and listen to music (FLAC files).
