[implement] Show results from all available libraries under Actor view, not just the current library

Maybe it just needs to finish matriculating!

In fairness, while it’s “worth” moving a vote, I haven’t done so yet. I like the underdogs I’m already rooting for.

So maybe I’ll move a vote from something more popular, instead.

It may become more popular when actors have images/listings to search across.

Give it another decade before it really becomes annoying for those just now getting an actor image. Those who’ve had the actor image that doesn’t go across libraries - gave up a long time ago.

Maybe it would’ve gotten more votes if people had more votes available. I think most of us have our votes spread out across the Plex voting jail at this point.
:stuck_out_tongue:

Voted. Posting to keep the thread alive.

This would be a great feature.

Voted, this would be awesome if implemented.

Voted.

Is there a way that I can apply multiple votes? This is such intuitively obvious default behavior that it shouldn’t even need a feature request to be voted on.

Please make this a priority item.

This should be a given. I usually have Actor entrances that appear on at least 3 Libraries Movies/Series/Animations. But I have some Actors that appear on more, the way I have set up my Libraries, so it is a feature that is missing from Plex. Please consider it.

Agreed!
I actually consider this a bug. And it’s been around since at least 2016 (!!) with multiple threads posted about this issue in the forums. It should NOT be rated by its “votes”, this should be fixed.
It’s also a pretty simple fix, as the global search actually already does that!
ALL THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE IS CHANGING THE LINK ON THE ACTOR IMAGE - instead of the current page, point it to a global search for his name.

This is literally a 30 seconds fix.
The fact that this bug has been around for over 5 years is simply ridiculous.

Yes. This is such a needed feature. Please implement ASAP.

Coming from using Emby, seems very odd for it not to do this.

+1 We need this.

+1 I think someone already mentioned this might be a quick fix by just changing the link when you click on the actors name to a general search on their name in plex instead of an IMDB actor 12404 link or something. Either way I can’t believe we don’t have this yet. Would love this, thank you!

+1 ditto, this seems strange… Collections are not the answer to everything as they do not show in plex the same as how libraries do… If you are in a movie and want to see what other movies that actor is in, it should span, at least, all other local libraries. I’m not even asking to know what my friends servers have, just be able to quickly look at all of my libraries… seems trivial.

+1 From me!

I’ve always wondered why cast is divided up per-library, I’d love to have this unified. The only conflict I can think of is if a user has a library that they did not want participating in the global catalogue, for example NSFW/XXX.

When is this happening? Being that it’s 2021 and from a code perspective this seems relatively straightforward. Plex mods, what can we do to make this go quicker?

I understand that not all feature requests will actually be implemented but this request seems relatively simple to implement in coding terms yet this suggestion/request is four yrs old now.

Since the search function allows you to see “Bruce Willis in Movies” and “Bruce Willis in Television” when you search for him, it seems like the infrastructure for this feature is already there and just needs to be tailored for this display option.

As it is, not only are the two lists of credits separate but the TV credits are only half done. If you click on Will Arnett, you’ll see Arrested Development because he’s listed as a cast member on the Series page. But you will not see results for 30 Rock because he’s only listed as a cast member on Season 3. This seems like a huge oversight. The search results should either include all of the season cast members or those season cast members should all appear on the main page for the series – especially since the season cast listings are only viewable on certain platforms.

I think they’ve mentioned once or twice that with the new metadata agent, this was one step closer, as now actors are the same “entity” across libraries.

I would also love to see this proposed feature expanded, where you can see the episodes of a TV show where certain actor has guest starred. For example, an actor that only appears on the last season/episode of a TV show could be viewed this way. I think Apple TV implements this and I find it very useful.

I like how the Apple TV app displays a person. Basic movie and show hubs, special episode appearances like you mentioned, plus directing, producing, writing hubs. I think it even shows related people.
