The request is to add Labels to the Custom filters.
+1 for me, want to be able to see things not yet labelled for my kids.
It’s been about 1 1/2 years since I requested this – Still organizing labels for sharing with my kids is a pain, since there is still no way to see filter by titles that don’t have a label yet.
Again, we’re requesting to add Labels to Custom filters, so we can see which titles don’t have any or a certain label yet.
This is absolutely necessary for managing a library with labels, which should be an easy solution to implement. For those working with labels this is absolutely needed and really should be implemented as part of the whole Labels feature.
Yes, I need this too. I’d like to see ‘unlabeled’ in the list mediamuncher showed, and ‘unlabeled’ in the Custom Filters. When someone has hundreds (or even thousands) of items to comb through to find 5 or 6 items without a label when we know it’s one sql query away, it’s disappointing to say the least. I don’t know what your database looks like, but how about something like:
SELECT Movie_Name
FROM Table_Movies
WHERE Media_Label IS NULL
And then give us something to click because we’re all rubes who can’t do it ourselves.
I need this as well. Please add Labels to the custom filter.
Not having the ability to do custom filtering by Labels makes sharing between user accounts almost useless due to the large amount of extra work required to add things.
The main use case is where you have a seperate Kids account and are setting the content based on Labels, it’s VERY painful to not be able exclude the movies/tv shows that you have already added to the label being shared !!
Clicked the vote button to make it 11.
~550 movies ~80 Shows. I just got my plex pass so my kids and my parents could all have separate users. I was playing around with the movies to see the best way to label them, when it dawned on me that I hadn’t seen a setting to automatically apply labels, which means I would have to edit everything as it arrived
. Then I remembered hey, there was a label filter…oh, that only shows things WITH specific labels.
oh wait, customer filters!..Nope, no custom filtering by labels .

@jasonmdyess That’s EXACTLY how I experienced it. And that was more than two years ago and still no change in sight, even though it could be such an easy fix
+1 (and voted)
Definitely need “label” added to the Custom Filter as both my libraries and remote users grow.
Hi John, This is the first time I’ve seen a moderator in on this issue. You have the screen shots of the issue and it’s been a few months now. Any news? This should be literally a couple lines of code to fix and would make many people happy and make kids safer. We all want safe kids, right? Can you let us know what’s going on? I just checked the web app today and it’s still not fixed. Thanks!
I’ve always thought it was odd that this capability didn’t exist - it seems so basic. Once you have created a category and applied it to several titles, you need to be able to filter on the things that are NOT in that category to find the ones you are missing.
Got my vote added as well. Currently there is only one work around I have found. In your list of say TV Shows, select all of them (click on first one, hold shift, then click the last one). Next edit them all by clicking the edit button (top right). Go to sharing and add a new label called “New”. Then only view labels called “New”. Edit groups of shows at once then remove the “New” label as you add a label for the set of shows. After you finish they will disappear from the list and you can continue to add labels as you have time, knowing that the ones with labels called “New” have no label (have not been sorted yet etc).
I just wish there was a way to add a label to all new incoming media!
Pretty sure I voted for this two years ago…the forum thinks I did. Still amazed there’s been no progress here.
I have 23 collections I am using to categorize our movies. We have hundreds of them. And with the challenge of Plex forgetting collections I have assigned to movies (Thread HERE)…I really was trying to find a way to filter to only those movies without an collection tag assigned to them.
Seems, like I am on the bottom of a two year plus year waiting list.
Any updates of adding a custom “No Collection Assigned” filter?
Used up one of my valuable votes on this!
Hello @Plex, it’s not a request with crazy many votes, but on the other hand not one that is hard to implement neither and would help out all the users that are actually using labels for organizing their family sharing. This thread is nearly 3 years old and we’re feeling a bit neglected here.
This will be added in server version 1.18.8
Do you want me to close this thread and mark in as [implemented]?
This will free up your votes to spend on other features.
1.18.8 is available to Plex Pass users, and the Label filter is there. It has a couple of inconsistent behaviors, but it works, at least in my initial tries.
OK, closing now.
Please report any issues in the regular forum sections.
