+1 for AV1 support.
Well, need to add H.266 as well.
Royalty-free video coding formats like AVI and VP9 is a must but H.266 as proprietary is also on the timeline I would hope (30% to 50% higher compression rate for the same video quality cf HEVC)
Why tarnish this thread?
With such a request, so far away?
WTF. It is perspective.
This might help you. Perspective. A post from over two years ago. Hence my comment about 266 going on the timeline now and expecting it maybe in 2-3 years.
So is ASSENTION .
As usual, I did not expect that devs of plex would directly jump to it and add AV1 support, or any new format from today on. They might be busy doing really important stuff that we donât see, but if they noticed this thread, please, keep up with standards that keeps shifting because some rich idiot takes over and wants to make more greedy money over the backs of usâŠ(like youtube, rename it in annoying commercialized â â â â tube)
FYI, Plex HTPC has been released with AV1 playback support (Plex HTPC - #31 by Moussa). Plex for Windows/Mac/Linux will follow on their next release. PMS will follow in an upcoming release.
The delay was because the build mechanism for dav1d required extensive changes to our build system to support it across ~20 platform targets.
Finally!
Thank you for the codec support, and as well for the added context!
Is dav1d 1.0 being used?
Yes, 1.0.0.
Will there also be a transcoder included when the release rolls out for Plex Server?
Iâm very much looking forward to being able to watch AV1 on mobile and Chromecast in the near future!
+1 for AV1 support!
Itâs finally out for the desktop Plex clients!
@gbooker02 Is there an ETA for Plex Media Server AV1 support release?
Is there anywhere you would recommend to follow along to understand the progress of development?
Plex does not discuss development of features. If/When something is available, it will be announced here in the forums.
- (Transcoder) Added support for AV1 video decoding (#13941)
Anyone know if its smart enough to use quicksync on intel arc cards to transcode quickly?
We have not done anything special for the new ARC GPUs. If VAAPI works then AV1 decoding should just work. Let us know if it doesnât. VAAPI = Linux.
AV1 decoding with QuickSync not yet supported on Windows, this will use the CPU.
There is no hardware AV1 decoding on Macs.
