So, the new Fire TV Stick 4K Max from Amazon supports AV1 decoding natively.

Where is the AV1 support Plex? You really want to drive people to Emby?

Itā€™s really annoying to have to convert all of the av1-encoded videos to h.264 one by one, but it can be done. It would just be so much simpler if av1 compatibility was added to Plex natively.

+1. This is necessary for Plex to stay relevant. Even Jellyfin supports AV1, and thats free.

Until this gets fixed, I use the ā€œuse external playerā€ on android and then just use MX player to view my media.

Itā€™s not ideal, but it gets the job done. Subtitles work too, but progress is not saved and if your connection is not fast enough transcoding is not possible.
