Bump. I want this too.
Voted, this functionality is really neceassry.
This is a needed feature
2017 suggested⊠2020 and still nothing.
Be great if plex listened to its user base. This would be a great feature.
Wow, not only does this have a decent number of votes, but the default implementation doesnât make much sense (to control subtitles for each individual episode). Sigh.
Still waiting, still dreaming. Open source development looking better and better every year.
Iâd appreciate being able to configure subtitles per series as well as setting the default audio. Especially comes in handy with anime as it defaults to English audio with no subtitles, which is the global configuration. I do not want global configuration to apply to anime or foreign media.
Yes i need this, Sometimes i want watch a series with the English dub and no subtitles, And other times i like to watch a series with Japanese original audio and English subtitles. Please add this feature to select audio and subtitle preferences an a per series basis.
EDIT: Well I forgot I already voted for this earlier. Still waitingâŠ
Hello Plex team,
Any update on this feature?
Sincerely,
Running into this problem in 2020, 3 years after this post. Audio/subtitle selection is 100% core functionality that desperately needs updating.
First, implement it on a per-library basis. Second, implement it on a per-show basis. Third, disable it on the per-episode basis. There is ZERO argument for having to set the language on every episode transition â no sane user would expect the program to behave this way.
Please add this feature. When you are watching 14 seasons and 24 episodes per season, its a pain to have to turn on subtitles each time.
+1. Plex, please, my kingdom for this feature. Manually selecting subtitles every single time is so rough.
Would love to see this implemented at a series, season, collection etc. level. Major bummer not having it available.
+1 this is really frustrating having to change every episode to allow subtitles. Any ETA on this change? It doesnât strike me as something that would be complexâŠ
Agreed, I would love to see this built into Plex. However, in the meantime I made this site so that you can mass-change subtitle tracks by season or series.
The help section has a link to the github as well if you want to run it locally.
Thank you for Pasta but it isnât as clear cut as you think it is. Maybe a more âstep by stepâ guide instead of a vague help section would help⊠I did muddle my way through but it would be best to include more info. For example when trying to change the subtitles/audio of an entire TV series you first have to select the series, that a season (any), and than an episode (any) and THEN you can select the audio/subtitle. The three options at the bottom are useless (single episode, single season, entire series) even though you can click on them easily enough and change their colours UNTIL you drill down and then the buttons do something (even though they change their colour and act exactly the same as when they did nothing). Maybe greying them out or something until they are useful.
Whatever the case- thank you so much for all your effort!!! Itâs brilliant and I will be buying you a coffee.
Luke
Please put any discussion of 3rd-party tools into their own forum section and thread, instead of muddying this feature request further.

It isnât very promising to no see any updates on a thread thatâs been going on for 3+ years. Is there any plan to actually develop this feature? Have they even looked at it? I would love to be able to set this even as a per library feature.
I voted one year ago. Itâs sad to see this feature at that point.
Plex, even if you do not want to planify this (decision I can understand), it would be more than appreciated from 300+ people who voted to receive at least an answer from you (yeah, we paid for plex pass, an answer from you is free).
Also, from a developer point of view, this feature is not so complex to implement
Cheers from a happy Plex user, but a bit disappointed at this very moment.
