My kids started watching Attack on Titans and they love watching it in Japanese with English subs.
They have already complained how annoying it is needing to change each episode when it starts.
As others have said. This should be an easy feature to implement. And the fact we get all these other “features” which are just filler instead of useful additions is frustrating.
Please pull your fingers out and actually get this added.
I can’t belive this feature hasn’t been implemented yet, honestly think about it, if I set a specific Audio and Subtitle Track for one episode, in what scenario would I want to switch back to default in the next episode?
This is badly needed and from what I can see, can’t be hard to implement, at least not within the span of 5 years that this thread has existed.
If they have their own Managed User profiles (or their own Plex accounts) they can change their language settings to work around this. Set them like this:
As long as you have your subtitle tracks tagged properly this will result in all dual-audio anime playing back in Japanese with subtitles. The only down side is the captions will be on by default on all English-language content, too. So you’ll have to turn them off.
Posting this here, even the topic just states “subtitles” without mentioning “audio language”, because other requests for audio language have been closed referring to this topic. Also, other members are interested in this audio language feature as well.
It is really annoying, if watching a TV series marathon, and changing the audio language with every episode.
I have my default language set to English, but although, I keep almost all TV series in two languages, I usually don’t want to watch some specific series in English.
Two features would be nice (at least the first one ):
“Remember Last Played Language” setting - not only in automatic playback, also if returning after a longer period of time to the series:
Setting on a series level (I don’t think season level would be necessary as someone else mentioned), overriding the profile default configuration.
I rarely use subtitles, but maybe it equally applies to subtitles, too.
Seriously, how is this not a basic feature yet when foreign media is extremely popular and dual audio content is growing faster than ever? Most of my media collection either has a foreign audio stream in it or dual audio and i’m not about to remux it all. Really would like to see this implemented for sanity sake.
I was just reminded of how terrible the customer service is around here. Would any staff members care to chime in as to why this isn’t on their roadmap?
I’m using Plex Auto Language tool for this specific inconvenience. It simply reads what language audio and subtitle is used for a playback and automatically sets the same tracks for subsequent episodes.
It doesn’t offer per-show language settings. But it achieves the same result. Just need to set the tracks once.
Don’t know if it works for external shared users (separate accounts) but I’ve confirmed that it works for managed users via Plex Home.
Does anyone know how this works?
It almost looks like it’s a setting on the admin side, but I haven’t tried the web app with a non admin user to confirm.
I checked the Android Mobile app and couldn’t find a location to make the change at the show level.
Just curious if anyone confirmed how this works (I realize it was just released).
From what I’ve been told/seeing the screenshots, each user have option to edit language preferences of per show basis.
I personally prefer “semi-automatic” approach of Plex Auto Language that matches the audio/subtitle selection for subsequent episodes once you stream one (and choose your preference) since most users would be unlikely to think/know that they have this option/control to begin with. Choosing your preference one takes just about the same effort as bringing up show preference window. So I’ll likely be keeping PAL running on the side for now.
Edit the tv show / anime as if you wanted to change the poster. Go to advanced and scroll to the bottom and you can choose the audio / subtitle settings.
This is definitely a big improvement and as far as I know Plex is now the best media server around for this issue now, but there’s no TV UI so I’d have to set it ahead of time for shows I want to watch. I can make it work for myself, but it’s awkward for anyone else.
I found that way, however I am the admin since it’s my server so that option appears.
I’m trying to understand how this option would be set by regular users if it’s supposed to be open to all users. Because if it’s only for the server admin, that really doesn’t make it that useful of a feature.
Like I said, I haven’t logged into a non-admin user yet to check (I have a couple I can try with, just haven’t had time), so not sure what they will see, if anything.
