[Implemented] Control subtitles on a per-series basis

Bumping to join the legions of folks wanting this feature.

It’s a crying shame that the default answer from Plex is silence, given the amount of people, time, and Plex pass users have voiced this feature as a hot item.

For anyone interested, i did write a script “subby” to automate audio/subtitle flagging.
So plex can pickup the preferred combination.

Still no info about this improvement…

Would love to see this, as I have multiple shows in various languages.

I’d like this as well. I recently re-encoding a bunch of shows that have subtitles so the subtitle track is separate instead of burned into the video, and even though the audio language was not English it set the subtitles to Off. Sometimes it wasn’t even consistent in the season, some where set to English others were off.

+1, watching anime is a pain right now

+1 can’t be that hard :frowning:

Just here to +1. PastaTool works, if some random guy on the internet can make it work, why can’t the Dev team here? I’m sure someone just needs to get assigned the project.

plex: it’s okay if you ‘never look back’ during development.
meanwhile we’re all ‘looking FORWARD’ to having the feature of series-wide playback settings be implemented!

Seriously, what’s with the silence? This was requested more than 2000 days ago.

Bumpity bump !

It’s painful to experience Plex subtitles after watching tv shows on Netflix/Amazon Prime, where you don’t mind this “detail”.

5 years being ignored with absolutely no feedback.

Maybe we should take a look at open source projects like Jellyfin. At least the communication / priority management should be better :man_shrugging:

I like how Plex keeps adding features no ones asked for instead of things like this QOL.

I would vote for this but I wasted all my other votes on things that were also ignored

Bump for this. Can’t believe this has been ignored since 2017. Come on Plex. Just add it.

Every other streaming app on the market remembers your language and subtitle choice per show after you select them on the first episode. Come on, Plex. It’s been four years and 800 votes, how much more do you need? Make like Shia LaBeouf and just do it.

Good Christ, Plex. PASTA (and others) has existed for years, and while it still works, thankfully, it’s a total hassle to realize after starting your second episode that you need to set the subs for the whole series in a completely different web app because this feature still hasn’t been implemented.

It’s been 5 years since this request and we have an interminably long list of rather ambitious features added (and sometimes removed) to show for it and we are to expect that this feature seemingly either would require such a herculean amount of work to get going that it’s not feasible (I couldn’t possibly see this being the case) or it’s somehow such an entirely trivial matter that it doesn’t even warrant a response, despite the 5 year long chain of users not just voting for but begging for it.

I really do hope that we could at least expect a reason given for this, because I am wholly unable to think of one myself.

This doesn’t necessarily need a UI element to go with it, the default behaviour of changing subtitles or audio language should be to change them for the entire series, the change is already tracked anyways on a per-episode and per-user basis.

I can’t imagine it would be too hard to, at the very least, check the language choices of the previous episode watched and attempt to match them.

Biggest annoyance with Plex viewing among my users is this, especially for foreign TV shows and anime. It becomes a pretty significant issue when viewing on a less input capable device, like a smart TV. Having to navigate through the menu for every single episode to change the language for subs and/or audio just makes Plex annoying enough to not use if there’s any other viewing option out there.

Let’s get this done please Plex, should be easy, Jellyfin apparently does it.

Jumping on the pile. Finally went all in on Plex after over a decade on Kodi, and after about a week this is my #1 feature that seems to be missing from this otherwise awesome product. 6-7 remote clicks per episode to be able to enjoy it is super frustrating.

Ditto on default audio on a multi-audio series - either at the show level or the season level - default can be by user.

Add this and I’ll buy a lifetime subscription in a heartbeat!
