Feature request: Dynamic Collections

Detail: This feature adds any new library content to a collection automatically when the collection is based on a specific condition, including studio, network, etc. and the metadata for the new content matches the collection criterion.

Example: Dynamic Collection based on studio=Netflix.

Detail: When a movie or TV program is added to the appropriate library and the metadata retrieved for it lists the studio or distributor as “Netflix” the content is automatically added to the “Netflix” dynamic collection.

A method should be provided for adding content not automatically added to the dynamic collection.

A method should be provided for removing and/or blocking content from automatically being added to a dynamic collection.

A dynamic collection under Movies should show any similar dynamic collection under TV Shows and vice versa.

Of course the other feature request has more votes. He just posted his request. Give it time to breathe before pouncing and killing it.

Although similar, It’s not the same feature request. You may construe it to be, but it’s not. Further, it’s poorly worded, almost rambling. This request, on the other hand, is clear, succinct and direct. I would not vote for the other one because it’s vague and ambiguous, but I would vote for this one, but I can’t, because you killed it.

Maybe it’s a language barrier issue, but precise comprehension of written language is important. That other feature request should’ve been the one to be rejected.

I agree that my feature request is not wholly similar to the prior feature request. I would like my request reopened.

You can now create “smart collections” from the (new) advanced filter.
This requires PMS 1.22.3 and Plex Web 4.56.3 (currently only available in the hosted web app) or Plex for Mac/Windows 1.31.0.

For your specific examples… you can e.g. use a filter for some custom label to include items not automatically picked up by your basic criteria (e.g. filter by contains label X or matches group of filter criteria). The same goes for blocking items.

Those collections can also be published/added to your home screen (requires a Plex Pass).
