Not saying it's the answer, just better than nothing.
I totally understood. It's just that if you are going to waste your energy in doing something, you might as well doing it the right away.

I see what you are saying. For me, I would rather they implement it the way I described. I know it may be some additional work on their end but It would be more user friendly. Did you see how hard it was for you to explain your thoughts. Imagine your wife, girlfriend, mother, sister, brother, niece and nephew who aren't computer savvy using that feature. It just isn't ideal for them. Where as just browsing through the library and just click on add to watchlist seems so much simpler. Similarly to right click on an item and add to playlist. It's quite simple and all you have to do is explain its purpose and they would understand. Netflix, Hulu, etc...they all have it and that is something they are already familiar with. Nothing new to learn. When asking for a feature, it is always good to keep the family in mind you know what i mean.
I see what your saying, although I don't know if having an extra section will be easier. This is pretty much the same functionality that were both talking about, just implementing it in a different place on the UI. I suggested implementing it into OnDeck and playlists because I would think it would be easier on people already familiar with the playlist feature. As you said though, I don't know if this would be the case with how my idea would be implemented when a new users comes across it. To me it's easier, because I don't have to look at or pay attention to an extra section in plex. In say the android app, we'd probably have OnDeck, then Watchlists, then Recently added and so on. To someone else I couldn't say, then again I think a lot of people need to get off their arses and understand the stuff their using... but that's not a gripe with the software, it's a gripe with technology as a whole ha.
As with most things and Plex, when I see a new feature on here, I can't wait to see what they do with it. I'm sure it will fit better than both of us have expected, but we'll have to wait and see :). You've got my support for a watch list feature anyway, if you wanna flesh out your idea more for me like how you see it been easier I'd enjoy reading it.
Kodi uses watchlists, does it also have Playlists? I'll go check out how they've implemented them if they do. Might give me a better understanding of how they can work separately because at the min I still don't see why when they have similar functionality they should be separated into playlists, watchlists and favorites. I would personally think, Playlists, been watch lists and favourite lists be easier on everyone not just the devs as it keeps everything in one area, and your not jumping about into different parts setting it up. As you said you'd right click and add to playlist/watch lists/favorites, my way would just be, add to playlist then your select the correct playlists for watchlists, or favourites. Plex could even go so far to add custom right click options with my way, which I think might be a handy feature, especially as you say with making it easier for family members to use. I could just set up their right click option and tell them, if you want to watch it add it to that.
I dunno, my heads in 2 minds ha. Change it!
@S1mpleman in Kodi, playlist is playlist, and favorites is favorites and watchlist. I think one can also add a playlist to favorites.
I personally never used playlist. Besides the fact that I never had a need for it, it sounds more like something one would use for music rather than video. You and I are computer guys, we know you can use it for whatever but the average joe doesn't know that. When designing and implementing features, that's something to keep in mind. When Plex released "On Deck" I personally thought that was a really bad choice of title. None of my family members or family friends knew what On Deck means. Over time i started telling others at work about plex and they are computer guys and didn't even know what on deck was. But when it told them, think of "On Deck" as "Up Next" or "coming up next" without autoplay. They all responded. "oh that's the next episode". You know why it was so easy for them to figure it out when I said it was up next because that's the term every one is accustom to watching live tv. MB, I am not sure if you are familiar with their software, calls it "In-progress" which is somewhat better since it is also a place holder for movies which are in progress.
As for as space in the UI goes. You don't have to have all them in the UI. You can pick and choose what you want there. It sucks because plex doesn't allow device global config. Global config would of made plex a whole lot more simpler and easier. What I mean by global config is: configure a profile per devices. I configure plex web how I want to use it and save it on the server as a profile. Whenever I want to use plex web in any browser, those settings comes down from servers and configure it. If you want to make local changes then you can. Similarly to plex on your roku, etc... Nothing more annoying then having to reconfigure something identical to the next and they both in separate locations. With global config you wouldn't have to worry about that. That's why microsoft invited group policy.

I've never used them before myself, I'd literally never even used them for music as I prefer shuffling with most things. Although I'm finding a use for them now, As I mentioned before. I'm guessing this is similar to the watchlist feature, but I basically section off my movies by genre or what ever as well as unwatched. This allows me to not bother keeping up with the movies I'm adding and to focus on 1 area where I'm fed all the movies I need. Was quick to setup and with it sticking to unwatched, as soon as I watch something it's removed from the list. I actually really like it, I suggest having a play because I'm guessing we've got similar library's that are 800+ movies and it's helped me out loads. Might if anything help until watchlists or whatever is implemented. I agree with your points though, On Deck, I thought was a good name to be honest, but as you said people do find it confusing. Personally, to me it's whats on my deck, what I have available to view but not everyone makes these connections and I agree 'Up Next' or 'In Progress' or even 'To Watch' would have been a better naming choice. I think Plex were trying to separate themselves from Media Browser, which is a finiky thing for any software developer to do. They have the trouble of keeping it easy, and not copying someone else's features. Be better if a Dev could confirm any of this mind! All we can do is allude to possibilities.
I know about Global config, I've used similar when I was using XBMC a while ago. I literally only switched to Plex because managing 2 or more users on the network with MySQL for watched lists was becoming a pain and a problem for someone who doesn't know the in's and outs of it. Yeah I can setup a database but editing those and making changes I wasn't comfortable with. That would certainly be a good feature to implement as it was good with XBMC, allowing me to save profiles, device settings and everything else server side. So new device setup was simple and easy as plugin it in and picking the correct config. I would love for Plex to implement something similar to this. No idea how they'd go about it, probably could be done without some massive redesigns. There a feature request for Global Config?
Yeah you and I are totally on the same page. For now I think I am going to use your idea and utilize playlist. I mean it makes sense once i understood what you were saying. A little confusing at first but one I thought of it as kodi smart playlist for videos then yes it'll definitely work for now.
I thought about creating a post about "global config" for devices but i am starting to feel like I am asking for too much. I asked for quite a lot of things and they never got implemented. But I'll start the thread and see where it goes. Gees there are posts with thousands of likes and still not implemented :)

Maybe you can add your two cents :D

Certainly are! I hope it works out for you, like I say did about 90% of what I wanted... just could use some additions somewhere in the UI. Ha, that's probably down to my explaining more than anything :P I guess if I'd have said, smart playlists for Kodi you'd have got it straight away, cause it is basically that.
I shall go check it out! and nah, I would say not saying anything would be worse. If you've got loads of ideas, present them... it's what the forum is for :). It wouldn't be here if the devs just wanted to control where Plex went themselves. I myself have had a few drift away into the last few pages like, it's a little disheartening. I wanted to split the Library's include in dashboard feature into separate parts. I have a bit of custom media that I'd like to see in Recently Added as it's retrieved from Youtube channels I frequent, but didn't really have the need to see them in On Deck as there mostly for study reasons and not something I'd watch in a particular order. I did however want to track which ones I'd watched, and were annoyingly taking up space on the OnDeck. This has since been solved with smart playlists for now though, funnily enough ha.
Yeah you totally right. I hope they do get implemented as I feel they are really great features but we shall see.
Common terms are very important. See I told you :) . "Smart Playlist" could of saved you a whole lot of explaning.
Funny thing is I just found out today that MB is working on server side configuration for clients. :) At least for remote users.
Certainly could have haha.
I shall have to have a look at this MediaBrowser, I've heard a lot but never checked it out.

It never hurt to give it a try. I have Plex, XBMC and MB running 24/7. They all have their goods and their bad. Not until i find this one app that does everything they all do as separate apps then I would never leave them. I do hear people say a lot of stupid things about each apps but to each their own. They are all good in their own way.
I would love an option of watchlist, accessible as a Playlist and as a home category (like on deck). with a button in every shows to “add to watchlist”.
Movies
Complete TV Series (TV Shows)
Specific season(s)
Specific episode(s)
I have a 16tb Plex server, I always forgot what I was planning to watch couple of weeks earlier… this option would be soooo perfect.
Wouldn’t we all, but here we are 5 years later and apparently the developers think it’s too hard to implement. Much like managing multiple cuts of movies or special features on TV shows.
Im pretty sure it will come eventually. The audio delay settings (+/- ms) should already be there also… I think they know the missing basis. I think its only a matter of time for these options to take place.
Just responding to this to bump the thread. I really want to see some feature like this or a way to edit the content of “On Deck”. This has been asked for since 2014. Throw us a bone!
Bump. I agree. I would like to flag a movie already in my library as one I’d like to watch soon. Adding manually to On Deck or a Watch List would suit me just fine.
Thank you for considering adding this feature soon.
I am still surprised this is not a thing. I have so many shows and movies I want to watch and being able to add it in a watch list would be amazing because I forget about it after a few days. xD
And add it to your home screen.
+1.
The fact that this isn’t a thing is the most puzzling omission from Plex. With “choice overload” the way it is these days, this is almost exclusively how I find new content to watch on Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc. Then, when I get to Plex, I can’t be browsing for the thing I want to watch, see something else that looks interesting, and be able to simply toss it to a “Watch Later” queue… so I end up forgetting about it. I mean, this omission is particularly puzzling because it’s been requested since 2014 I think? I just don’t get it…
Yeah does not sound professional from Plex… simple request and which makes sense to have for a media player. Already available in Plex own Movie & TV Shows library server so why not make this available for personal Plex servers?
Take this serious as people are paying for your apps!!
+1 from me.
When watching a movie from a collection, I’d like to add the rest of the collection (even if I have to do it one-by-one) or even just a part of the collection to a “watchlist” that would appear on the Home screen, similar to On Deck. I may not watch the 2nd movie form the collection for several weeks, so figuring out what collection I was watching from is a PITA. I’ve had to use my play history to help me remember.
Additionally: I’d like to be able to do this from any app. Such as the webOS (TV) and Roku apps.
+1 From me as well.
