6 days in and we’ve 660+ votes, top 15 features requests and many multiple threads with concerned customers and still Plex Inc remain steadfast on keep this embedded advertising in our personal media servers.

Really think that says it all. Going to step away from plex, will keep an eye on the forum but I’m kinda done. Best of luck folks …

I’ll be looking into alternatives as well. I don’t mind all the ‘fluff’ if A: it helps Plex, inc. stay afloat and B: I can just disable it and it’d be like it was never introduced.

They were the ones offering Plex Pass in the form of a one-time payment. Shoulda just never introduced that option and kept the monthly price a bit lower.

Funny how I have explicitly opted out of “experimental features” yet they’ve decided to push this crappy Beta on me anyway. Time to look at alternatives…and definitely time to stop recommending Plex to friends and family.

Because the number of people who turn it off entirely will reflect as a bad metric when they go to “partner” with someone to sell ad space there.

The only, and I mean ONLY reason why they don’t allow you to opt out with a simple toggle.

Y’all, I’m over it. I been called out for simply linking an article in which lists executive leaders or so called employees who might be responsible for this and Plex has a problem with it, telling me that my behavior goes against the TOS.

I’m done. If Plex, its employees, or it’s newly appointed executives can’t handle criticism, then I’m no longer a Plex user. My server is officially shutting down. Jellyfin and Emby for the win.

I don’t think that’s a fair assessment.

A Plex employee posted this in this very thread a few days ago:

Elan posted something similar in another thread.

And just yesterday, this was posted in the ‘adult recommendations in Discover’ thread:

At this point, I don’t think it’s fair to say Plex isn’t listening and “remains steadfast” in the way Discover is working now.

Releasing such intrusive features without customization options wasn’t great. It was clearly a mistake. But let’s see what they’ll do in the next few releases.

If what they end up developing isn’t adequate, then we’ll talk more. But for now I guess we all just need to wait and see what they do. The message seems to have been received.

The absolute sad part is a grand total of zero plex, inc full time employees, mods of this forum, or investors that knew this thread (and associated copies) existed.

This thread needed to be shown directly (and linked with screenshots to prove this existed) to the one poor mod who plex, inc leadership threw into the lion pit to try and manage Discover showing hardcore porn to children.

This is something we learned 1st semester while getting a MBA: Complete failure from the leadership team for not understanding the customer.

edit: grammar

I’d wager they address the serious stuff right away, let the furor die down for the overall complaint about Discovery, and release something that only barely meets some of the disable request. At least, that’s what history shows they’d do.

@Tion1 You probably missed my reply. A toggle is not good enough and I did say I’ll continue to monitor the forum for a change in stance. But this is not good enough, not by a long shot.

I should only see my content and nothing else. If its polluted with external search results or other stealth ads then that’s a big no from me. That’s not why I purchased plex and advocated to others over the years.

You missed the part where they don’t fix anything wrong with it for a year and half to two years then quietly decide to pull the plug on it.

It’s interesting how we have to Vote to get an OFF SWITCH for this feature, and we have 660+ votes but still no confirmed off switch.

Yet, no formal Votes on the side of Pro-Discover and it is still being forced on us.

This sure has become the users against the company.

Perhaps, Plex should run a poll to find out what the users really want.

My money is with you.

They have yet to commit to an opt-in/out switch for watchlists and discover even after having this much egg on their faces.

This feature request is to disable both, discover and the search ads via more ways to watch. They are implicitly linked IMO.

Sorry, I meant votes in favor of keeping, or even initially adding, Discover to Plex.

I updated my post, thanks.

Yeah, because that’s not at all an excessive reaction for some teething issues while introducing a search function that people (some, not all) might find useful…

C-Line members don’t usually fire themselves for their own faults. Just saying.

It didn’t have much to do with teething as it had to do with some deliberate choices (not to include a “Disable” option.)
