I hate this feature, isn’t the whole point of Plex so that you can control and share your own media. I don’t like that it’s recommending things to people who use my server that I haven’t put on there and I cannot remove it.
It’s not a ‘server’ feature so any ability to disable ‘Discover’ will only apply at an account level, i.e. you’ll be able to turn it off for you, but you can’t force it off for anyone connecting to your server, they’ll have to do that themselves (if they want to).
Hello @BigWheel ,
After a bit more than a mounth that this thread was published, could you try to give us some infos were the things are now on the developpers side ?
Like maybe what change we could expect, where it would be and even maybe a time window when to expect something ?
I’m a bit worry that with how Plex would handle this subject since it did very bad lately.
Maybe, because it is a beta, you would have some questions to ask to your beta testers ?
Maybe we could be a bit more a part of it than just the ones that take the ■■■■ and then wait until plex decide ti do something ?
Thank you very much for keeping us updated and feeling a (little) part of Plex.
i’ve mention what we are going to do previously and they are at top of list as far as I know but sorry I do not have an ETA.
We are adding a toggle to disable Discover and separate ones for the “more ways to watch” in search and universal details screen (servers will still show) . We are also afaik going to be making a full page search results as well.
Will it affect the Watchlist? In the sense that it will automatically pick up from your server if you have it?
Because at the moment it doesn’t coordinate the posters, descriptions or seasons.
I understand where you are going with that but not that I am aware of. The Universal details screen will still list all servers one has access to with your own server first, even if only avail on one server
I don’t mind other servers appearing as options, but it would be nice if it’s on your server, instead of appearing along with the rest of the servers, they were simply an extra option, being able to reproduce and watch your seasons directly without having to click on the version of your server.
Although at least it would be good if they coordinated the posters and descriptions and different personalized metadata instead of taking those from the internet.
Yes! Coordinating the posters, descriptions and other metadata to what’s on your server is my number 1 wish for the Universal Watchlist. Actually, I find myself not using the new Watchlist much at all because most of what I add to it ends up looking so different than what’s on my server.
I wrote something about this a few weeks ago in another thread:
Yep, it would be great if instead of giving us the option to log in to our server, it would log in automatically, and add another “other servers” style button or just have them stacked underneath, like seasons and recommended.
Only downside for Emby , there android tv app is like dog ■■■■ outdated.
Interesting.
Performance wise I found it night and day better than Plex on the Shield.
Performance wise maybe, but in general the look is outdated . Tried it 6 months ago for the last time.
Yeah same here, the Apple TV app is also horrendous ![]()
Wow, please notify when something will happened, i thought i was the only person who bothered by DISCOVERY, i have checked everywhere how to stop this service, unfortunately no success, I HOPE FOR Good news… ![]()
Cross your fingers and wait…
This has really made me mad as well as my users. This is not a personal media software anymore. Plex sucked us all into to this build your OWN PERSONAL MEDIA SERVER concept… They are using all of us to get richer, an damn the user. There is absolutely no reason why this extra crap can’t be shutoff by default, and I mean everything. If the individual user wants it, they can turn it on. This software is garbage right now. I have a license for Emby so I maybe using it shortly. They care about the technical details. Might not be as pretty, but I think it is a alot better software as far as playing your media files. They keep it simple. (KISS) Hear that Plex?
I guess I just live on a parallel universe where the ability to play all my media (something Plex on Android was incapable of doing for several weeks recently) outweighs a pretty UI.
That said I no longer use either.
There is also Kodi.
Perhaps for some yes, I prefer having a nice UI also.
On a side note, Emby has even worse playback for me on android . Plex is doing a “Oke” job playing back my media.
It’s just all the bullshit option the keep adding and messing up performance with every update.
I’m seriously thinking of converting my server. This feature is an absolute no go for me. I do not want it. I will not put up with it. If it isn’t removed or set so I can completely disable it I’ll find something else that will work. It’s garbage and it gets in my way. I have other apps if I want streaming media. I will not use them in Plex.
