It needs to be disable-able. My “Plex friends” families cannot have their kids seeing these types of results.
I’m OK with the Discover feature, I agree it shouldn’t be forced and def needs some improvement. I’m assuming it’s part of being Beta, but issues I found is that if you have your media in collections it doesn’t find that movie or show. It only find the movies/shows that are not in collections. I think the idea of having everything in one portal to choose from is a great idea and can be useful just needs to be done correctly.
I’m not asking Plex to remove the feature. I’m asking Plex to allow me, the administrator of my content and server, to remove/disable (not just “unpin”) the feature from my server and clients.
I get why many people will enjoy the new Discover feature. It is something Roku has been doing for a long time now. I’m just asking for choice.
Correct. If Plex requires this outside stream of money from online streaming sources, then our local content is competing with those outside services.
Our content provides Plex with no money, so it will lose in the long run.
I just use plex strictly for my media…Yesterday I opened Plex on my Roku Ultra and this whole introduction came up and I was like WTF??? I didn’t choose anything and then it brought me to my home screen. I never use the search function though… another thing… I feel like before I can blink there’s a server update…
Remember guys it’s a beta.
You know, when you “optionally” opt in to test the latest PMS features, the latest upcoming Android, Apple TV app or any other software from this or any other company.
Oh wait.
Plex redefined the word beta.
Bottom line though…after being given an answer to a question I never asked it was finally confirmed that seeing spam results in your search (even if not using a 3rd party streaming provider) was NOT a mistake/bug.
To be fair I was never told it won’t be looked into, but I no longer had the patience to ask.
This actually made me laugh as I saw it as a hypothetical look into the future.
I didn’t laugh when I realised you weren’t joking.
Unfortunately it’s totally true. The former bread and butter of Plex, and the reason they exist in the first place, is now literally the last thing on their minds.
Agreed. Plex got here on my money, and the money of others, by offering something DIFFERENT and giving me the chance to start my own streaming service.
Plex even admits they were profitable WITHOUT needing to offer or promote outside content.
One other thing…
I have my media library, so I don’t have to pay a streaming service.
Adding on in request for a mechanism to:
- Remove the un-pinned “Discover” function from showing under my own private library
- Remove “More ways to watch” discover results from searches, and as such,
- Do not send search queries to Plex / keep the search scope 100% libraries which I choose locally or among friend’s libraries which I select.
Thank you!
Not heard it said here for a while, so I will say it once more.
You’re doing it wrong ![]()
My elderly relos -
what is a streaming service ?
… ![]()
I’m doing what wrong…
Sorry.
It’s a thing from Plex dating back years.
If everything isn’t perfect…You’re doing it wrong.
In this case if you are using local media and not streaming…You’re doing it wrong
Just spoke with folks and we are going to be adding a toggle to the search bar (like is there for individual servers) to turn off the “More Ways to Watch” part of the search.
Why not just add a toggle to turn it off completely?
Edit: this sounds a lot like a half measure to justify keeping the rest of the discover stuff and not letting us turn it off.
This is EXCELLENT news!! I’m very happy how responsive Plex is being on this topic.
Please, please, please allow us the same for all sources of outside content: Movies & Shows, Podcasts, Live TV, Web Shows, Discover, Watchlist Similar Titles, etc.
Well, that’s part of it, so thanks. Did they say anything about an option to disable Discovery? I would think that would be a toggle on the Settings > Online Media Sources page, or Settings > Streaming Services.
Agree and never send out a beta function (well, any function) that pushes ads thank you without an option to totally disable it.
