[Implemented] Fully Disable Discover & search results from Streaming Services (More Ways To Watch)

Like many others, I had also been looking forward to a favorites/watchlist type of function. Unfortunately, the way it was implemented it has not been something I’ve bothered to use.

Today, after disabling all discovery features, I added a movie to the watchlist just to see if anything had changed. As others have already pointed out, it still goes through watch.plex.tv first, but now it shows only your own sources under “Watch from these locations”. It then takes another click to actually get to the movie page in your own library. Additionally, it still shows “Similar Titles in Free To Watch” at the bottom of the movie’s watchlist page, which many of us won’t like, but the funny thing is you can’t even click on any of those.

I understand this is not the thread for watchlist requests, but please give us a watchlist that bypasses anything outside of our content, and with a one-click “play” function.

Thanks!

EDIT: Even better, give us an option to keep things in the watchlist as favorites (after having watched it), perhaps in a separate section.

The question wasn’t directed to you, it was just a general question. I figured they’d come hand it hand but the option to was missing :man_shrugging:t3:

For what its worth I’m very happy with this change and it meets my expectations for disabling this unwanted feature on my account. Thank you and the team, I’m once again happy with my plex setup :plexheart:

Others seem to have some issues with Watchlist so I’ll let them discuss that but as author of this specific feature request I’d personally not object to having it closed as implemented.

Thanks and good work.

This needs to be disabled. It is confusing my users and I am getting questions as to why ‘my’ content says to watch it on another platform. Not user friendly

Read up… there’s now an option to disable it in each user’s account settings (Settings > Account > Online Media SourcesDiscover)

  • Could you help me to anderstand this :

  • What is the difference between “Disable” and " Disable for Managed Users" ?
Disable means just for me or for everyone? and Disable for Managed Users, just for them ?

Also, in the Discovery there is still this big Banner in the middle :

It is still asking for us to add streaming services even though i choose none and I don’t want one.
Is there a way to disable it?

  • And one last question, is it also disabeling it for my Users that are not Managed ones?

Thanks to the team for providing this option.

  • Disabled = disabled for everybody in your account (yourself and all managed users)
  • Disabled for Managed Users = disabled for your managed users

As discussed above… given the features were not available to managed users so far, the two options don’t make all that much of a difference. As other users posted earlier you can read this as “Plex is working on an option to enabled Discover etc. for managed users” or “Plex simply reused the default options from the other online media sources and the mention of managed users has no deeper meaning”.

It’s an option in the account settings – so you changing it will not impact users who’ve got their own account. If they don’t like it, they’ll need to disable it by themselves (or you need to tell them / instruct them to).

Some people just need visuals.

@tom80H & @SwiftPanda16 Thank you very much, it’s crystal clear now :slight_smile:

So, for the question that wasn’t answered yet, is there or will there be a way to disable the big banner in the middle of the Discovery feature?

ps: on my original post i wrote Watchlist, but it’s on Discovery, sorry for that mistake.

How exactly have you configured the Discover online media source options to get to see that banner? I cannot seem to reproduce this…

Edit: ignore… just figured out you get that banner if you enable Discover Source but have set no streaming provider preferences.

Next issue:

Watchlist details page is still showing “Similar Titles in Free To Watch” even though I have “Disabled” the “Movies & TV” in the “Online Media Sources.”

Yep, i see this too

@Kilgry is that also in Roku app only?

I am not aware of any plans to get rid of it on universal details page. It will still show servers that the content is available on (and future release dates) so the place holder still needs to be there. It should not show up on details pages that you get to directly in your server libraries.

Yes, the banner shouldn’t be there.
Plus there are the 3 dots menu in the top right corner to add streaming services if wanted.

@Tangs I’m not really clear on which of the options you turned off. If you turned off all three of them are you still using the watchlist for your server content?

If the settings are like this :

With no Streaming Services selected, then there is the big banner in the middle of the Discovery page

Yeah because could still be used for server content. If you want all streaming services disabled. why do you have Discover source enabled? what do you use it for?

To watch trailers for upcoming movies to theaters for exemple

OK. I’l pass it along but I don’t think the place holder is going anywhere. But I have been wrong in the past.
